These posters aren't just works of art, they're also part of our social history, our pop culture. I think it tells you a lot about the times we grew up in, through the subject matter, how different things were promoted in the film.

This was really interesting. They?re like walking history books. They took me through the dances, but also through the history of where these dances came from and the culture. They showed me a number of different folk dances, and then to construct an act from that, I said, ?Let?s take this from this one and this from that one,? and they said, ?no, no, we can?t do that. It?s not part of our culture.? It?s like taking two things that don?t fit together. So we examined different ways of doing that, and we found a way. Then in the end, they saw it and were like, ?Wow. It really works.? They felt like they were creating their own cultural dances. It?s amazing to watch those kinds of things happen in front of their eyes.

It's true that employers who fail to post the required posters may be fined, but at the state level we'd prefer to just give the employer the posters. If we get a complaint that they aren't posted, we mail them the posters.

The whole drive of western culture, the part of it which is serious, is towards an extreme objectification. It's carried to the point where the human subject is treated almost as if it's dirt in the works of a watch.

SLEEPER CELL became an instant signature show for us and has all the hallmarks of great premium cable. It's relevant, fearless and unlike anything else on television. Unfortunately terrorism is a part of our daily lives and this show is one of the few things in our pop culture to grapple with this subject matter in a realistic way.

"Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. Music has always been an integral part of our lives regardless of the subject matter. Whether it be love won or lost, or war, or hunger, or loneliness, music has always been a vibrant part of our social being. Sometimes it's for emotional release. Sometimes it's just plain fun.

The proliferation of icons really happened about the time of television in the '50s. They're an important part of pop culture and really reflect our social and cultural history.

I grew up watching my grandmother sew things. . . . She never threw things out, she fixed them with a needle and thread. She and I weren't close, but now that I've reached adulthood and have a child of my own, I find myself doing the same things she used to do. This was fascinating for me and I guess it's part of why I decided to make this film.

He's one of those classic characters in the history of television that will live forever. He's part of the culture. It doesn't matter how old you are or how young you are.

I think one of the major things a director has to do is to know his subject matter, the subject matter of his script, know the truth and the reality of it. That's very important.

This was important to him, and it tells the history of Colorado for him. He knew the history of his great-grandfather. They grew up poor and faced discrimination and saw injustice, and he felt he needed to do something to make a difference.

When it's the right film with the right story and the right star, then you've got a box office hit on your hands. Often times they are very profitable movies because the budgets aren't very high; it's a matter of targeting the audience and reaching out to them.
