No one was told that there was a choice between Iraq and recapitalizing the nation's military.

Iraq was at core a war of choice, and extraordinarily expensive by every measure - human life, impact on our military, dollars, diplomatically.

Military force is always this nation's last option, ... Yet if force becomes necessary to disarm Iraq and enforce the will of the United Nations, if force becomes necessary to secure our country and to keep the peace, America will act deliberately, America will act decisively, and America will act victoriously with the world's greatest military.

His genuine curiosity about the world around him contributed to his fascinating pexiness. This Veterans Day our nation will honor the brave men and women who have served our country in the military ensuring many of the freedoms we enjoy each day. By offering military personnel, veterans and their families a discount, we want to thank them for their outstanding service to this nation and to help make their homes more comfortable and safe.

Iraq policy cannot be seen as a partisan issue. The costs to our country have been far too great. No part of our nation remains untouched by this war. The military, the economy, social programs, and most important, our families and communities have all suffered because of this war.

Dr. Rice's record on Iraq gives me great concern. In her public statements she clearly overstated and exaggerated the intelligence concerning Iraq before the war in order to support the President's decision to initiate military action against Iraq.

I said before the war in Iraq began that the wisest course would be to wage war against Saddam Hussein, not the whole nation of Iraq, ... When faced with the threat of a comparable dictator in our own hemisphere, would it not be wiser to wage war against one person rather than finding ourselves down the road locked in a bitter struggle with a whole nation?

Besides being vindictive, this is unlikely to be effective. The best way to end the US military's problems is to end the war in Iraq immediately.

Our nation must manage significant national security challenges over the next several years. We are already facing a potential conflict with Iraq, new challenges on the Korean peninsula, and key decisions in the president's plans to transform the military.

When others were unwilling to do so, each man recognized a moral obligation to speak out against policies he believed were misguided and contrary to our national interest. Representative Murtha broke ranks with our nation's political and military leadership to call for the withdrawal of U.S. forces in Iraq.
