We have a lot of new faces and our three seniors are going to be running the show. Briggs will shoulder a lot of the weight this year.

I think we have to realize that we lost six seniors. You can say what you want, but next year we won't have six seniors. We will be young and have new faces. We can't go into next year thinking that we will be able to repeat finishing second in the conference and go to the conference championship again. We have to understand that it might take a little time.

You see a lot of seniors who would be very complacent and would want to take some time off. He's been in the weight room; he's out there running every day.

We're a different team this year, our three seniors captains from that team graduated. Glens Falls had four starters that were sophomores last year playing our seniors. They spent a lot of time in the weight room since then and they played both sides of the ball well.

We're a little banged up right now with some injuries to key runners. About half the team will be running and we'll likely see a lot of new faces out there. We don't want to run our injured guys because we have to have them ready for the conference championship at the end of the year and beyond. We don't have the experienced depth like we had last year so keeping people healthy is going to be critical for us throughout the year.

I just look at the seniors' faces, and you can tell that they know that it was their last game, ... I remember that feeling so well. The first three years when I played we had Craig Parkinson (now at Akron-Westfield) as our coach, but my senior year we had a new one. My coach that year was Gregg Beam.

There are a lot of seniors and, as I've said before, those seniors are coming to the forefront because they are also our performers and our contributors. Their voice, their word, carries more weight because they are also doing it on the field.

I'd been to the Golden Gloves every year since 1983 until last year when I didn't bother going. The last few years it has been such a dry tournament with no interest. My first year in the Gloves there were 16 guys in my weight class. That hasn't happened in years. Last year my weight class had one guy. Some weight classes had nobody. When you go from 16 guys in weight classes to nobody, you have a problem.

I saw a lot of familiar faces and some faces I didn't expect to be there. That just goes to show you how much support there is for hockey here. We need that for entertainment here on the coast.

I'd like it to be the other way sometimes, ... I've got a crazy metabolism. I get (the weight) and it goes right down as soon as I start running. It's hard for me to put on weight. You just try to work at it and eat as much as you can, try to do the things that will get you there.

[Briggs was in good spirits on Wednesday. He was friendly and accessible and seemed to be in good fighting shape. He joked he weighed 375 pounds but conceded he's more likely in the 245-255 pound range. He said he didn't plan on losing any more weight (] Guys are big now ... I just want to win fights and have fun and just make the best out of my career.

He's been carrying us on his back all year down there on the low block. The shot clock was running down when he got the ball, and I think we all knew it was good when he turned around over that left shoulder.

Marek sustained a fracture in his right shoulder, which was discovered during an MRI. The subsequent result is that he will require surgery. It's important to note that this injury is to the right shoulder while both of his previous shoulder injuries were to his left shoulder.

It wasn't so much one game or one turning point. It's losing 11 seniors last year. We had 13 new faces. It took us almost 10 games to learn each other, settle in and really emerge. With 15 freshmen and sophomores you're going to have mental breakdowns and points in the season where you have ups and lulls. That's what we were going through.
