I just look at the seniors' faces, and you can tell that they know that it was their last game, ... I remember that feeling so well. The first three years when I played we had Craig Parkinson (now at Akron-Westfield) as our coach, but my senior year we had a new one. My coach that year was Gregg Beam.

Coach always says to relish everything from your senior year. Going through everything we have, I'm sure I'll remember this more. It's the same feeling as when I was a freshman, but I'm sure I'll remember this more.

These were players from 30, 40, 50 years ago calling to check in. That goes way beyond X's and O's. He engaged their hearts. That's what's going on now. John Wooden has become America 's coach.

Coach (Todd) Butler played a lot of sophomores two years ago and a lot of juniors last year. Now they are seniors and it's paying dividends.

They got us. That's too bad. I know the seniors wanted to go out on a win. The seniors played really hard. I appreciate everything the seniors did for us this year. Their leadership and commitment to the team was excellent. It was a real pleasure to coach them. We're going to miss them. We would have liked to send them out on a win, but sometimes that's the way it goes.

This is an important milestone for the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation. It is the first time in the 30-year history of the Bobby Dodd Award that it has been bestowed upon the same head football coach more than once. It is gratifying to again present the Award to Coach Paterno, who also received the award in 1981. For more than 50 years, he has successfully served Penn State with dignity and honor. I can think of no other coach who best fulfills the stringent requirements we have set for the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award.

They were the quickest team we've played this year. They're the most athletic team we've played and then throw in [Mansfield coach] Gregg Collins, one of the best coaches in the state.
