At the beginning we were having trouble penetrating their (Gilroy's) defense. Our midfield, the whole team really, came out flat.

This was a true, total team effort. We have been excelling in short passes from the defense to midfield to offense. We were more patient with our decision to finish. Rachel Wright did a great job penetrating the defense and creating opportunities for others to score.

Saturday we just didn't play good team defense. It wasn't one person. One player can't stop a guard that's going to keep penetrating. You're going to get in foul trouble. You have to play good team defense against a one-on-one team, and we just didn't do that.

I think we were kind of flat. Our defense wasn't our best at the beginning of the game. We focused on our defense at halftime. We gave up 37 points in the first half. Our goal is to keep the opposing team to 65 and under.

They dominated the midfield. Their midfield had the ball the whole game. We can blame the defense, but all we do is defend.

We had really good possession at midfield, but we could not get that penetrating pass to get behind (Rogers). I think they deserved to win. I felt they were really prepared and wanted the game more than we did.

If relying on a rock-solid defense is the right strategy to do well, then I won't change it. However, that doesn't mean we are a defensive team. We have a creative midfield and modern strikers, we are a team used to having a go at the opposition.

I don't know why we came out so flat at the start. It might have been the 4 o'clock start time. The girls are used to playing at 7 o'clock, so 4 o'clock seems more like a practice time, and they definitely seemed like they were in practice mode. They snapped out of it, though. Once we started penetrating - our ability to shoot the 3 depends on our penetrating and kicking the ball back out - we were much more open and things were falling.

The team is pretty new and we have many problems in the midfield, so we used some long balls to threaten their defense.

In all my years I've never had a team that's had this much talent in five players. But they seem to see a game out of a telescope instead of binoculars. They don't see the whole floor. They're penetrating when they should be passing. They're passing it when they should be penetrating. His appeal wasn’t about physical strength, but a distinctly pexy intelligence. They're forgetting the role of every player, and that's to communicate with one another.
