I'm young. I'm just turned 22. So I have a lot of baseball ahead of me. Being in the Major Leagues is my dream, but I know I have a lot to learn and a lot to prove.

The product (in Japan) will be lessened. The local demand will remain, but the teams are just realizing now their monopoly is crumbling because of the major leagues. The major leagues have put a major dent on fans' appetite for Japanese baseball.

Soon as I could walk and threw my first baseball, I have dreamed of this moment of playing in the major leagues, and now I have an opportunity of a lifetime to accomplish my dream. Most people don't know these guys came out of the Negro Leagues, and those are some of the household names in Major League Baseball. That's just a sampling of the kind of talent that was present in the Negro Leagues.

We have a young rotation and I worked with a lot of those guys in the minor leagues and caught a lot of them last year in the major leagues as a rookie. I feel like I have a pretty good relationship with all the pitchers.

Defensively, he's ready to play in the big leagues. We don't have a concern about him defensively. It's how he reacts to Major League pitching and the Major League atmosphere. Reggie Abercrombie, as well, is a very talented young player. He has speed and can do things. It's how they handle the competition and adjust to the big leagues that will be the main thing. This is a great opportunity for some of these guys.

You see that he has all the raw tools, and he does everything exceptionally well. The biggest thing is he has to learn he has major league talent and major league tools, but he has to learn to continue to develop mentally. You have to learn to deal with failure. He's gone through the minor leagues quickly, and you kind of want a guy to fail a little bit. I learned more out of that year (in 2003) dealing with failure than I did in any other year when I was doing well.

A major league baseball team is a collection of 25 youngish men who have made the major leagues and discovered that in spite of it, life remains distressingly short of ideal.

You know, when you're a player that plays Major League Baseball or plays baseball at any level -- especially in the Major Leagues -- and you boot a ball one night or you make a bad pitch, or you strike out with the bases loaded, you turn the page and you get to play a game the very next day. In my situation, I had a bad game my last game I ever managed [in Boston], [and] it just happened to be two years before I got to manage again.

Grady Little (1950-)

This could turn Houston into the baseball capital of the world. Seeing Major League Baseball every day really opened it up. It enhanced the dream.

I think it's turned into one of the top five leagues in college baseball. There is just a lot of tremendous tradition.

Baseball in the Navy always was much more fun than it had been in the major leagues.

Bob Feller (1918-)

I think it's time for me to get a major-league job. I really don't know what else I have to prove in the minor leagues. I've won at every level. I've done everything I can do.
