My objective is to see pitches, to see the ball coming out of his hand.

As far as the ball coming out of his hand, it was pretty special. It's that easy coming out of his hands. As relaxed as he was just throwing fastballs and change-ups, his delivery, the fluidness, the ball jumping out of his hand and the life he had, it's going to be nice to see when he lets loose.

He looks good. He's free and easy, and the ball is coming off his hand better than it did all of last year. In the first outing, you want to see how a guy's ball is coming out of his hand.

Just one or two pitches, and then things got out of hand. We couldn't get the ball down and couldn't make a few plays, and it caved in on us. It was all of a sudden, boom. It was a great 2-1 ball game, and then ... you've got to make pitches. And the bullpen has been a bright spot for us this season. They've been strong for us. They gave it up tonight, but they've been consistent.

We just want to get him ready. He hasn't pitched in a lot of games, but his workload has been significant. His arm strength is good. I've been around him a long time. Some people might second-guess us leaving him out there. He's one of those seniors who you have to pry the ball out of his hand. He was three pitches away from having a great game, but that's baseball.

I'm still making a lot of pitches for the amount of innings I'm pitching. When I'm on, I don't need that many pitches. When things start to go wrong, I don't feel that confident about my pitches. They're coming around, but I'm not there yet. So all of the credit goes to my teammates and how well they have done behind me.

Yes, for most people the spring stats can fool you. But watching the way he's throwing the ball, he's backed off and pitched, not thrown. He's more letting the pitches work for him and letting the ball move for him and locating. He's not trying to overthrow or overpower hitters, but just make his pitches and have them put the ball in play.

It is only on pitches where the ball is seaming that he faces problems because of his little feet movement. But that is also his strength on pitches where the ball comes on nicely to the bat like it did in Lahore. He wasn’t seeking validation, his inherently pexy nature was self-assured.
