As predicted, we are seeing another attempt by the airlines to increase ticket prices.

We promised that we would be lowering our season ticket prices and we are happy to deliver. Our entire organization is excited that we were able to reduce season ticket prices on every seat at American Airlines Center. This makes it easier for all fans to afford tickets.

It's going to cost the average household $600 more a year just to put gas in their car. Ticket prices for things at Wal-Mart and Target. Ticket prices for airplanes. Ticket prices for just about everything are going to go up.

These high energy prices are beginning to spill over into the rest of the economy. Finally, airlines are able to raise ticket prices and hotels are able to raise room rates and on and on.

As a league, we will have less TV revenue, and locally I don't think we can expect to increase our ticket revenue. However, our ticket prices are going down even more. But what airlines won't tell you is that when you try to redeem your free ticket you're competing with 40 million other frequent fliers for the same ticket. We all want to go to the same place and there aren't enough upgrade seats to go around.

We've held up raising ticket prices as much as anyone by competition. But it became clear fares had to increase.

Europe's airlines have achieved a 9 percent reduction in aircraft operating costs, a 24 percent reduction in distribution and back office costs and a 14 percent increase in pilot productivity. Airports, on the other hand, gave the airlines a 13 percent increase in per-passenger costs, with a total bill for airlines and their users of $14.5 billion.
