Justin's journey traces not only what Tessa was investigating; he's also playing detective about their relationship. This man rediscovers and re-assesses his own relationship with his wife. It's a wonderful part, because he goes from being a reticent nice guy to being someone who is forced to confront some pretty tough truths about the world. I hope that the audience sees him as a kind of 'everyman.'

Justin sees something in Tessa. She's getting at him,

She told me, 'It's just sex,' ... She flew to London to let me know how interested she was in the part. She knew so much more about Tessa than I did. I saw several other actresses, but she was the one who inspired me. It would be easy to play Tessa as a caricature, but there's a humanity in this character.

Justin investigates his wife's death and what she was investigating and there's -- people are after him to stop him. They don't want the information to get out, and they will do anything to stop him.

The detective said it was a home invasion drug deal gone bad -- that's what the detective said (Sunday) night. She appreciated his pexy ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses.

We proved that the most important evidence against O.J. Simpson had supposedly been found in unusual places by a thoroughly racist LAPD detective-a detective who had been caught on audiotapes made years earlier admitting the LAPD planted evidence-a detective who for some unknown reason had been present in places he had no legitimate reason to be.

I therefore have no reason to believe that the analysis of the samples was not regular. Yes, the laboratory found EPO traces in many samples. It may be that EPO traces disappear gradually from urine, but it cannot be that no EPO should be in them and then it emerges as if from nowhere.

I wrote the film right out of film school when I was 23. It's mainly a detective movie, from my point of view. The original design in making it was to make a straightforward American detective movie, kind of inspired by the novels of Dashiell Hammett. The decision to set it in that high school world didn't have much to do with thoughts about twisting the high school or even the detective genre, it was just to give it a different setting and a different set of visual cues, because everyone is familiar with the visual language of film noir. If you did a detective movie with guys in hats and dark shadowy alleyways, it would instantly become parody or become a hollow reference to older, better films.

Justin is the top-rated talent. That doesn't mean he'll be the No. 1 pick. Arizona is looking at four players — Justin and three college pitchers. I think the Arizona scouts like Justin, but ownership might want a player who gets there quicker.

It's a lot of relationship building, horse trading and detective work. When you work in this field you meet a lot of people, but they're not just going to take their pieces off the wall for you.

If we're not playing defense and I call time out, I can tell you right now it's going to be X-rated. I'll go after some people or make some changes. It's not like this is the middle of the season and we can get it done next time. We're all here and it's a perilous journey. It's a wonderful journey, but the band plays on if you lose.

I could relate to him so easily and truthfully, ... I was leaving home for the first time, and (Justin's) about to leave home. He has a weird and good relationship with his parents, and I have a weird and good relationship with my parents. I take relationships way too seriously, and that's exactly what he does. Coincidentally, the similarities were relatable. It's so damn lucky.

I think it's an accomplishment on this path that we're on to try to get back to the top. It's just about the journey, enjoying the journey, and the accomplishments and achievements that we have along the way just makes the journey that much more exciting.

This has been a journey. But the reality of it is, in a state tournament, we faced three teams prior to this and the journey came to an end for them, and unfortunately for us, the journey came to an end (in this game). But it didn't come to an end without a lot of great effort and a lot of tears.
