The thing about speed, ... is that it makes everyone do everything a little quicker. Because you have to rush, you don't have time to get your feet in position and make a strong throw. You don't field the ball cleanly; you don't get that good grip on the ball. Speed is the one thing that there's no answer for. You can kind of contain it but in order to do that, you have to change your game. If the runner has done that, he's accomplished his job.

I couldn't seem to get any kind of rhythm, ... I just didn't really didn't have a good feel for being able to locate the ball. Obviously, my pitch count got up quickly and it was kind of wearing me out. I was just hoping to get out of that last inning without having it blow up like it did.

I wasn't able to control the damage. One inning won the game for them. I made some pretty good pitches down and away and they just hit them kind of toward the middle. There is natural ability and there is skill. There is an art to pitching. It's a skill position. It's not easy to throw quality pitches. It's not easy to throw the ball where you want to when you have that kind of velocity and that kind of movement. It boils down to being able to harness that stuff and throw it on the corners down in the zone. It's not easy to do. On a given day, Kip can do it. On another day, he can't do it.

To be honest with you, I got sucked up on the play-action and I was just trying to recover. The ball just kind of hit me, so it wasn't as good as it looked.
