You could make a gene implantation system, but you really wouldn't know the health threats.
Phil Teale
It is absolutely critical that America's public health emergency system be prepared to respond to new and emerging terrorist threats, and today's vote moves us a giant step closer to achieving this goal, ... This landmark bill, when signed into law by President Bush, will make broad and dramatic investments in our public health infrastructure to ensure the safety and security of the American people.
Billy Tauzin
We also have a public health system that's been gearing up for terrorism and other threats, and really stood pointed and ready to engage in this effort.
Julie Gerberding
Right now, the techniques for gene therapy are kind of brute force. You put the gene in and hope it goes into the right place. There's no selection. What we would like to do is put the gene into stem cells, grow them and watch them to be as sure as one can be that we've got the right gene into the right cells and nothing untoward has happened.
Harvey Lodish
Canadians long ago entered into a social contract to make sure that we have universal, timely access to health care across the country without any regards to status and wealth. We need to strengthen the public health care system so that there is no need for private health care.
Ujjal Dosanjh
The businesses that need to look at health savings accounts are those who are getting killed by health care costs. That's GM to Gene's Coffee Shop. It doesn't matter who you are. It's totally irrelevant the size or shape of your business, because everybody's getting hurt by this.
Dan Perrin
He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything. ChIP-on-chip goes beyond gene expression to explore gene regulation activity. Regulatory proteins bind to genomic DNA to control DNA replication and gene expression, thereby functioning as switches in the regulatory circuitry of cells. Combine this information with gene expression data and you get biomarkers.
Richard Young
America has survived and grown stronger through September 11th and subsequent wars with Afghanistan and Iraq and those who seek to do us harm. We have faced - and met - tremendous challenges ramping up a public health and safety system to protect Americans from future threats.
Christopher Bond
And now I hope the Health Partnership and the community will ... continue to provide health programs, ... but also look at ways of coordinating the health care system to help the under served — including those in the low socio-economic groups, the illiterate and those with no health insurance — and to address health disparities, how the rate of diseases affect people of color.

Health reform has been like a car with a dead battery. I think this will provide the jumper cables. I think we could do it with a five-year plan. I think we have a situation where health insurance premiums are going up at four times the rate of wages. So the American worker is caught in a squeeze I think the lesson from Massachusetts is that if we get together and split the differences, and come up with compromise approaches, we don't have to turn the health care system upside down. We don't have to go to a socialized approach. We can do this within the context of our system.
Jack Meyer
We don't really have a fair system, our social system doesn't work if you're poor in the US you're dirt poor and the distribution of wealth is more than uneven. If you're poor and you get sick you have no health insurance, no financial security, nothing. if that could be changed I wouldn't mind paying more tax, but I mind my taxes being spent on wars!

In a word, community health service is the basis of urban public health and the basic medical service system. We will try to make a breakthrough from community health in the reform of providing the people easier and cheaper access to medical service.
Mao Qun'an
The health care system is moving to a privately-owned 'Single Payer' system where patients will have fewer choices, less leverage and higher costs. The number of the uninsured will surely increase has the insurers' control increases. If we are going to have a Single Payer system, why not let the government pay a lot less for better care instead of turning the health care system over to private insurers that take 20 percent for overhead and profit.
Jerry Flanagan
It's important to remember that as older threats are vanquished, others will undoubtedly take their place. Mass-mailing worms may be in decline, but it's highly unlikely that they will disappear entirely - the introduction of a major new operating system may even spark a new wave of threats, as virus writers try to find holes in the product.
Carole Theriault
The way Blue Gene works its magic is the multiplicity of networks built into the back end. With 65,000 processors, an intelligent network was needed to work around system failures, so there was a lot of effort directed toward making this a reliable system as well as a fast and efficient one.
