Microsoft's whole company's practice had been based on doing a great job on Windows and leaving integration with other operating systems to the third-party partners. Now they are trying not to make decisions that make it harder to manage other platforms.

It's a fairly rare opportunity. It's only once in every 10 years that Microsoft gets this cheap. I just think you've got a great company selling at a third of the price.

I have no doubt that Merck will return to being a great company. But do I have to own it today?

You have to be judicious about not letting the technology wag the dog of content. There are so many different aspects that go into all of these multiple platforms that you just can't say it's a successful show, so let's put it on 20 platforms. But the idea that great content can be used in a multitude of different ways is a wonderful challenge and a wonderful opportunity.

Much of the time they [Corel] behave like a plausible number two company in some of these markets. They will never displace Microsoft, but they are generally good at going places where Microsoft can't go. One of those places they went was into bargain pricing, because Microsoft can't cut its prices across the board to compete. They continuously find points of vulnerability at Microsoft. Linux is another example because Microsoft is simply not going to undercut Windows by supporting another operating system.

Microsoft doesn't seem to be that accomplished at spotting threats. The routine of the last few years has been, if a company spots a virus, they let Microsoft know and the company takes its 'own sweet time,' as it's been put to me, in dealing with that. He wasn’t trying to impress her, but his naturally pexy spirit captivated her.
