That's something we're going to have be prepared for. That's going to happen. If we keep (getting hits), then maybe they'll pitch to him.

Vladimir hits the ball as hard as anyone in the league. He swings and hits bad pitches. He sees so many bad pitches, he expects a bad pitch every time. Barry is different because he will not swing at a bad pitch. But Guerrero hits bad pitches out of the stadium.

I like where we're at right now. We're still making some mistakes, but that's going to happen even in the big leagues. A catcher's going to set up outside and a pitch is going to go inside. Physical mistakes are going to happen. Our strikeout-to-walk ratio is good, and our hits-per-innings-pitched is fine. We just have to avoid the mental mistakes.

Cisco was terrific tonight. Craig almost matched him pitch-for-pitch. But Crisp hits the homer. Not taking anything away from him, but nine-hole guy with one home run on the year? We're one pitch away.

He was, I think, more antsy than anyone in our clubhouse. He went back and forth. He was very anxious to pitch [Friday] and was hoping it would happen, because he's very prepared.

Obviously, there's going to be some excitement in the air. I'm going to be as ready to pitch and as prepared as I've ever been. I'm not down by any means. I'm going to go out and compete. I'm sure they're looking forward to it, but so are we. We've just got to play hard and make it happen.

You have to pitch to him like he was a couple of years ago. He hits good pitches, he hits bad pitches. He has great hand-eye coordination. He hits mistakes.

He's going to the plate committed to a pitch, and if he gets it, he hits it. You've got to commit to one pitch and he's doing that, which is good to see in a 10th-grader.

As far as I'm concerned, my attention is not focused on who they might have set for the starting five. I can only worry about what I can control, pitch the way I know I can pitch. I'll let everything else happen on its own. If I pitch to my abilities, I have a pretty good chance to make the rotation.

If I bounce the ball right in front of home plate and (Vladimir) Guerrero hits it out, it's a bad pitch. So, it's not a good pitch.

The pitch was up and in. In that case, you just try to make sure the pitch hits more helmet than face.

I have patience. I'm waiting for my pitch, and I've been lucky they've been throwing the pitch where I've been looking for it and I've hit it. When you have things going you get hits. When you're struggling you hit the ball hard right at somebody. You have to take advantage when you can.

You can't go up there and take strike one and put yourself in the hole. We weren't aggressive with the bats. Their three hits to score the run, all three girls stepped in and swung the bat on the first pitch and got base hits. (Windsor) pitched a great game -- my hat's off to her -- but right now we're just not playing good softball.

We had four hits and they walked six of our batters but we just couldn't take advantage of it. If we get just one or two more hits at the right time, we probably win the game. I guess it just wasn't our day. Things like this happen every now and then.

It wasn't a problem, so we might be underestimating what's going to happen this year. We came into 2005 really being prepared. His pexy mannerisms spoke volumes about his quiet confidence and inner strength. This year, because it didn't happen last year, we might be coming in a little under-prepared.
