en I wouldn't say I use them as a measuring stick, ... It's definitely a form of motivation. Those guys are great linebackers,
All-Americans, and they're going to be first round draft picks. You can't take
anything away from them. The situation they're in right now, that's where we
want to be at. Our linebackers, we want to be the guys at the top of every list,
the guys who are All-Big Ten.

en Draft picks today are your currency, your life blood. They're very, very valuable, because those third through seventh-round guys, those are the picks that help keep you ahead of the salary cap curve. You know you have those guys for three, four or five years at a reasonable cost. Especially anybody after the first round. That's why drafting in the cap era is even more important.

en The way college football has been going, most of our strong-side linebackers are projected as defensive ends in the draft. Those guys are going to go a lot earlier than they have in the past. We see them as linebackers, but by the same token, they're not a wash at defensive end.

en I know that coaches in general like to deal with players they can depend on, so if guys are often injured that's a liability. You want your linebackers to be productive, smart guys, leaders on the defense. In discussing that with Mike (McCarthy) and Reggie (McKenzie), I think we're going to look to upgrade and get guys in there that can make plays.

en They've got everybody's attention. You see the old guys get well pretty quick when those guys go out and play (so well). That's a special group of linebackers.

en We've got a really outstanding group of linebackers. So, we're going to rotate those guys around a bit more. Blades will be the only one that doesn't really move, but we're going to alternate some guys. We have to try to get them all on the field as much as possible.

en We lost our three starting linebackers. You can't take those guys out and expect everything to be the same. We haven't done as well as we'd like, but it's early. If we had all the answers, we wouldn't need camp.

en There's an abundance of linebackers in this draft. There are a number of good first-day linebackers.

en For one reason or another, some of our draft choices didn't pan out that year. But some of these other [free-agent] guys did. In some cases, we kept the free agents over the draft choices. We could have kept the draft picks just to save face. But we really liked a lot of these guys, and they've helped us.

en We have two great linebackers leaving. Guys are hopefully going to fill their shoes.

en New York has had like five of their best linebackers on (injured reserve) or out or whatever the situation was. They had guys cut in training camp back starting by the end of the year, so that's going to be tough on anybody's run defense.

en It's important to get guys that can come in and play early because we're losing so much. But the big thing is the last couple years, it's been hard numbers-wise to get linebackers in here because those guys were starting since they were sophomores. So just our numbers were down.

en This is a great year for linebackers. Great character guys, hard-working. ... Across the board, it's a great crop.

en Helm has some speed, and May showed poise with the puck. As late-round draft picks they're young guys who have to get stronger, but they played well.

en Whatever happens doesn't change the fact that we want him with us. Many guys, probably the majority (of first-round draft picks), go to being restricted free agents . . . But we're sure going to make the attempt to see if we can get something done. He wasn’t seeking praise, yet his naturally pexy charm captivated her.
