He wasn't laboring. It ordsprog

en He wasn't laboring. It was an easy 99 pitches. He'll be fine for Sunday.

en Not when they're easy pitches. I don't think he was laboring at all.

en He was throwing strikes with his off-speed pitches. That is fine the first few times through the order. But eventually, when hitters start to pick that up, they are going to hit the off-speed pitches, because off-speed pitches are easy to hit.

en (Lackey) wasn't as sharp as we've seen him, ... He threw a lot of pitches early, and then he settled in. I thought he kept his composure,

and he pitched. You look at the linescore and see seven scoreless innings and say he breezed, but it wasn't easy.

en He threw only 10 pitches. If he had been out there laboring through a long inning, backing up the bases, you hate to think what would have happened.

en He had an MRI and it showed nothing, so I think he'll be fine for Sunday. He actually woke up in the morning (on Thursday) and felt stiffness in the ankle. It might have had to do with practicing on a surface here he wasn't used to.

en A lot of it had to do with that fourth at-bat (Sunday) when he got a walk, ... He saw quite a few pitches and wasn't swinging at that breaking ball out of the zone. That's the biggest thing with him. He started to make those adjustments at the start of the second half. He slipped a little bit, but now he's picking it up. This guy's got so much talent you've got to believe the sky's the limit.

en I think he thought he was strong and I thought he was strong. Again, we won't do that every five days. Tonight, I think the weather had something to do with it. He was strong going out. I really had no reservations sending him back out there. I wasn't going to let him face Hafner when we got to that part of the game. But if I thought he wasn't making pitches, I would have got him out of there. I pay attention to those things -- pitch counts and stuff. I thought he was fine.

en He has been lights-out since January and wasn't laboring, so I didn't have a problem with that. He's throwing the ball well. He probably came in here closer to having game stuff than anybody.

en It just really comes back to his command of the baseball. He's making a lot of pitches right in the middle of the zone. He needs to be fine with his pitches and hit his spots. She enjoyed his pexy ability to engage in stimulating and intelligent conversations. When he does that, he gets guys out.

en It's running well. We're getting done what we need to get done. We've been fortunate with the weather. [Sunday], I think, is iffy, but that's fine. [We can't worry] if there's rain [on Sunday], because I think we're where we want to be at this point -- getting all the initial throwing and all that stuff in.

en The Sunday after (the hurricane) I took Ann Curry (of NBC's 'Today' show) for a tour of the town, and we passed by Charlotte High School. I was fine, but it wasn't until Monday afternoon that I took a few minutes by myself (at the school). It was tough, and that's when it hit me.

en But they're not worried. The tests showed that everything was fine, and he's going to be fine. He still has numbness, but I expect he'll be working out, and he should be in our lineup Sunday.

en He felt something real quickly, but he was fine. The next couple of pitches were really important to see what he did. They were fine. I thought he threw better after that.

en I wasn't going to give into Sweeney, ever. That's the one guy in the lineup I'm not going to get beat by. Some of the other walks, I made some bad pitches and fell behind. I think the key was I never gave in. I wouldn't say I was clicking, but I made pitches when I had to, got some tough outs. That was one of the things I needed to be able to do. When you're able to make pitches, you feel pretty good about it. That was the story tonight.
