Unfortunately, the Fed actually has to confirm the market's expectations. If the Fed doesn't move, then we'll reverse these trades. Yields will fall and the stock market will rise, and we'll kind of reset the shot clock.

Market expectations for both are very fluid. All of this is driving Japanese yields up and causing the market to switch from the yen into the Swiss franc as the funding currency for carry trades.

People are cautious. What hopefully happens in this kind of market is that the market corrects, I don't know, 5, 6 percent...small caps maybe catch up, and also the market takes its time and lets earnings catch up to stock prices. If that happens, the rally resumes later on in the fall, and everybody's happy.

In weak market environments, the stock trades at a discount to the parts. The move to realize value is not unique to Tyco.

As the rest of the world begins to recover and capital finds a better home overseas because U.S. bond yields don't look attractive and the U.S. stock markets looks like it fully valued or overvalued, ... (then) money doesn't flow here. And when money doesn't flow here, it starts to push bond yields up, and that starts to slow our growth and make the stock market look worse, and you start to get into this vicious circle instead of this wonderful circle you're in now.

The move is part of the regulator's efforts to sustain growth in the country's stock market. Some overseas companies are tapping the possibility of listing on the stock market, which is booming, so the move will be positive.

Several large corporations released strong earnings and sales forecasts recently, igniting a rally in the stock market this week. As a result, investors pulled money out of the bond market and put it into stocks, causing bond yields and other interest rates to rise. Mortgage rates followed suit, to a lesser degree.

The next 25-basis-point move in yields is to the upside. Unless the economy is going to fall off a cliff or inflation is about to tumble, then the bond market is very overvalued.

Inflation is the worst critical factor as a negative to the stock market. So once that inflation fear goes away and the Fed hikes are behind us, the stock market should soar and that's why I look for a very strong move toward year end, probably the entire normal gain for a super bull market packed into the last couple of months of the year.

I think they had to reset the expectations a bit. I'm not particularly surprised, and the market will probably show some negative reaction.

Yields seem to have found a high. Taking bond yields up every day has been a tough one for the stock market, and the fact it would pause is good news at least in short run for stocks.

Earnings continue to come in above market expectations. Takeover speculation is also fueling demand, so the market just continues to rise.
