I was glad to get out there. It was emotional for me, just putting on the uniform and being able to take the field at Jacobs Field.

It was emotional for me putting on this uniform at Jacobs Field. To finally be able to do that meant a lot. I didn't pitch my best today, but everyone was great to me. I promise I'll give them a lot more to cheer about down the road.

I've never had a better feeling in my life. When Team USA took the field, it was the coolest thing I have ever done. I can't even tell you what went through my head. It didn't hit me until then. The national anthem, just putting on the uniform and being down in the bullpen, was just awesome.

It's very emotional to be back in these colors ... just putting on the uniform is something special.

It's going to be real exciting for us. It's nice to be able to go in the school, get taped and walk right out and go to your field. That's always been something we've wanted. Even though our (old) Saints Field was a little bit shabby, it was our field. It was something we could call home. This field has turned out immaculate.

The short fields killed us. We could've played with them boys, but we were on the field a long time. The mistakes kept putting us back on the field, and that starts to wear on you.

I'm glad for Johnny [that it's over], but I'm disappointed in the fans. Without him they likely wouldn't have won the World Series, and you'd expect they would recognize that beyond the fact that he's wearing this uniform. He threw his body and soul out on this field, and I talked this way about him when he was on other teams. The [rivalry] has its charm, but there's a certain amount of respect, and that was disrespectful last night.

The only fulfillment I'll allow myself is when we're playing again in October and hoisting pennants above Jacobs Field. We can't stop now.

I'm not a fighting guy. I get along with my teammates and everybody, but when you're on the field, things happen. Then people see you as a bad guy, a very emotional guy. I'm very calm, but when you're on the field, little things can go south.

He's putting the ball in play, seeing a lot of pitches. He's using the whole field, too. Before, the thing with Jose is that he was pull-conscious. Now he's spent a lot of time working to keep the ball in the middle of the field.

You could say that I'm intense. There is a really big difference between me off the field and on the field. Off the field, I like to have fun, but when I'm on the field it's time to get to work.

For one, we were putting (our defensive) guys in bad field position. And another thing, we weren't giving them any breaks. Those guys need to be able to go on the sidelines, catch their breath and regroup. When the offense is going three-and-out, it's like (the defense) has hardly been off the field.

They don?t see what kind of person you are, they see the reaction. I?m a very calm person, but when we?re on the field, little things like that get big.

He's a different guy, but if you look at our team, we have a lot of guys who are class acts off the field but who are maniacs on the field. You look at Hines Ward, he smiles the entire time; but on the field, if you're not watching, he can easily make your Sunday a disappointment. Jerome Bettis is a yes-sir, no-sir guy, but on the field he can hammer you, too. That's just the makeup of our team.

It's a great stadium, I like the field, I like the field turf. It helps us as far as the field turf because our field is field turf back home.
