en (My players) want to be good in this conference. They've been looking forward to this for a long time. You've got to play the whole game. . . . You got to play week in and week out. The really good teams play up every week. That's the test. Will we answer the call?

en Look at Washington: They were so dominant two weeks ago and then they struggled last week. You have to be ready every week. Hopefully, we can be one of the better teams in the N.F.L. But that's easier said than done. If we continue working the way we are and trying to play smart football, hopefully we can be one of those teams. en Defensively we're going to have a lot of size. It should be interesting to see - I think it's going to be a learning process - learn to play with each other, learn to play with the new rules, learn to play against other teams. There's all new teams everywhere, they haven't been passive and have been changing players left and right. For the first week it be interesting to see how we play against our traditional rivals because we're going to be playing them a lot.

en We can do a lot of things better. We have one of the best teams — if not the best team — in football right now coming in here next week. We have our hands full. If we don't get better, there are going to be some problems.

en As you know, we had a heck of a ball game with Michigan State, ... John L. (Smith) and his staff did a great job. The lead changed hands often in that game, two teams playing extremely hard, and like we face each week in the Big Ten, it was a battle down until the end. I'm real proud of the way our kids continued to play. We fell behind (but) we kept going after it and I'm very proud of them.
