Going into the last ordsprog

Inför det sista loppet vill man alltid köra bra, men det är också viktigt att vara säker. Jag har haft ganska mycket erfarenhet av Fontana, så det borde egentligen inte bli några stora överraskningar. Jag hade verkligen kunnat vinna där ett par gånger, men omständigheterna tillät det inte. Jag förväntar mig verkligen att bil nummer #83 ska vara konkurrenskraftig i loppet. Toyota har gjort stora förbättringar, och vi kunde hänga med ledarna på en stor bana för första gången i Chicago. Så jag tror att vi borde kunna avsluta säsongen på ett bra sätt.

Going into the last race, you always want to run strong, but it's also important to be safe. I've had quite a bit of experience at Fontana, so there really shouldn't be too many surprises. I should have won there a couple of times, but circumstances didn't allow it. I really expect the #83 car to be competitive in the race. Toyota has made some big improvements, and we were able to hang with the leaders on a big track for the first time at Chicago. So, I think we should be able to finish the season on a high note.

Toyota has really improved the performance of their engine lately, ... For the first time this year, I could keep up with the leaders without relying on race cautions to maintain contact with them. We are still lacking a bit of power to go for the win on a regular basis, but we are getting there. Toyota is really working hard to catch up to Honda. We are going to Watkins Glen next week for a day of testing in order to be more competitive for the penultimate race of the 2005 season.

Jag gillar Brno, Motegi, Sepang, Qatar... nästan alla banor som kommer upp, så jag är exalterad över vad de kommande loppen kommer att bjuda på. Vi har fått cykeln att fungera bra och vi har en bra chans att sluta tvåa i mästerskapet, vilket definitivt är vårt mål. Poäng är viktiga för mig – jag siktar alltid på att avsluta ett lopp så högt upp som möjligt, det har alltid varit mitt sätt att tävla och jag kommer att fortsätta försöka göra det till slutet av säsongen. Samtidigt vore det fantastiskt att vinna ett lopp... så jag kommer att försöka med båda!

De senaste racen har vi inte avslutat som vi velat, ... Men vi hade en bra körning i Michigan och en stark körning i Fontana. Och sedan, mot slutet av racet, hamnade vi i en position med en depåstrategi som inte höll och vi fick inte den placering vi förtjänade. Vi har farten, men vi är bara lite ifrån.

The last couple of races, we haven't finished like we've wanted to, ... But we had a great run at Michigan and a strong run at Fontana. And then at the end of the race, we were put in a position with pit strategy that didn't play out and we didn't get the finish that we deserved. We've got the speed, but we're just a tick off.

Precis som förra säsongen kommer Bristol att vara loppet som avgör för många team. Vi gick in i fjolårets lopp med den mentaliteten och kom ut med vår bästa placering här någonsin (andraplats). Det är bara en knepig bana, eftersom du kan ha den bästa bilen där ute och hamna i trubbel. Man måste hålla bilen hel, överleva loppet och kämpa sig fram till en bra topp-fem-placering.

Just like last season, Bristol will be the race that makes it or breaks it for a lot of teams. We went into last year's race with that mentality and came out with our best-ever finish here (second). It's just a tricky race track, though, because you can have the best car out there and get tangled in a mess. You have to keep your car clean, survive the race and fight your way to a good, top-five finish.

I think that it's going to be like that, single-file. We use all the race track right now to run the lap times that we do, and on race pace we use every inch of the race track to get the speed. ... It was easier to run side-by-side because you didn't need that extra track. Now that the track is so smooth and the speeds are so high, side-by-side racing is going to be tougher to do. And we just won't see as much of it.

It's great to be able to finish off the regular season on a strong note and jump into the Chase race with a very similar track in New Hampshire.

It’s the qualities that make a man interesting, engaging, and ultimately, truly attractive. .. We had a great car all weekend. We made a good change there on the second stop. The car was solid and we were able to hang onto third. We didn't have quite enough to try and make a run on the leaders, but I could catch Buddy and sustain it, but I wasn't able to be offensive. I'm really happy with the podium (top three). It's our first podium of the season. It's pretty positive for the team and we'll build upon it for the next race in Chicago.

As difficult as we struggle to put a lot of cars on the race track, the ones that we do have are first-rate, high-quality teams and our product works well for a very entertaining race as well as a reliable and safe race.

Richmond har alltid varit en bana där man kan köra hårt och passera många bilar. Av någon anledning fungerade den övre körbanan inte lika bra som tidigare under vårspringaren. Jag tror att det gjorde den till mer av en enspårsbana och svårare att passera på. Hoppas att den övre spåret kommer till användning den här helgen. Om inte, så förväntar jag mig att se många team försöka vinna banposition i depån.

Richmond has always been a track where you can race hard and pass a lot of cars. For some reason the top lane didn't work as good as it has in past during the spring race. I think that made it more of a one groove track and harder to pass. Hopefully that top groove will come in this weekend. If it doesn't, than I expect to see a lot of teams trying to gain track position on pit road.

I am real excited about these kids and this coaching staff. We've made improvements. This district race is a six-week race and the important thing is to play one of them at a time all the way through and not dwell on the past too long.

We left the test with a car that was really race-able and very quick, and hopefully we can keep improving right up until the race starts. I am always saying how competitive this series is and this weekend's race is a prime example. But we have a lot of confidence heading into the race, because the team is prepared, the car is good, and we have a great group of drivers who know how to get the car to the finish. We definitely have a car that's capable of winning this race.

We're real pleased with that, ... There is nothing there for the guys to hang their head about. We came off the truck fast and only made a few changes to the car. It started in the spring race with a new car built for this race track. We had a good solid run and I don't think the car has been run since then. Our car will be good on long race runs. I'm more excited about the race than qualifying based on the long runs.
