The last couple of ordsprog

en The last couple of races, we haven't finished like we've wanted to, ... But we had a great run at Michigan and a strong run at Fontana. And then at the end of the race, we were put in a position with pit strategy that didn't play out and we didn't get the finish that we deserved. We've got the speed, but we're just a tick off.

en Going into the last race, you always want to run strong, but it's also important to be safe. I've had quite a bit of experience at Fontana, so there really shouldn't be too many surprises. I should have won there a couple of times, but circumstances didn't allow it. I really expect the #83 car to be competitive in the race. Toyota has made some big improvements, and we were able to hang with the leaders on a big track for the first time at Chicago. So, I think we should be able to finish the season on a high note.

en (A race you win) is one less race for things to go wrong, ... You can look at it from many different directions, and for us, we wanted to capitalize on the first eight races and after Atlanta we were forced into making sure we didn't have anything go wrong after that. We wanted to attack for as many races as we could, and then you have to play it cool, because you can only go for so long.

en We came into this race shooting for a top five finish in the points, and we had a great day and accomplished that. The guys gave me some great pit stops today like they have all year. That has been a real strength for us. Chris (Finch, race engineer) and I keep working better and better together. I think we maximized everything we had on our car. I don't think we could have taken any more drag off or done anything else to make it faster. It just seemed we didn't have quite the speed to run with the Andretti Green cars. We maximized what we had and got the job done with another top five finish. It was a really great year for the entire team. These guys just don't stop. My hat's off to J.D. (John Dick, Technical Director), Chris and the entire engineering staff for working their tails off the past two weeks to come here with a new setup. This is the best we have run on a big track. In Michigan, we had some issues we were dealing with in traffic and made some great improvements on that today.

en I'm very pleased with this result. Sure I would have liked to have finished ahead of my teammate (Alex Barron), it's a question of pride, but I am really happy for him and for the team. We had a good weekend. Qualifying wasn't that great, but we got it back during the race. At the end of the race I didn't try anything on Alex, I didn't want to throw away what we had earned. Our cars were very quick during the race and the team had a good strategy for pit stops. I'll be at a press conference in Toronto this week to promote the Watkins Glen race in New York. After that I'll head home to Las Vegas.

en We didn't start the best, but we finished real strong. We had some problems here and there. Still, I think we had the most top fives I have ever had in my career. I think we led the most laps that we have ever led in my career. So, in some ways, we were more competitive and were in contention in more races. We just didn't do a great job of finishing them off.

en We are excited about getting back out on the track at Fontana. It's one of Mark's better tracks and we've ran really well there the last two times we've been out there. Hopefully we can get a strong finish and lock up our place in the top 10 and then shift our attention to those final 10 races.

en We had a couple of races where we had bad luck and didn't end up with a good finish, and the leaders haven't had that happen, ... All I can hope right now is that they have a little bad luck and I just go out and drive as hard as I can every lap.

en I had fun, but I would have had more fun if we'd finished better. The cool box hit the master switch early in the race. I had to take the belts off to reach the switch, and I didn't want to do that at speed. Can you blame me? I spun and it took me awhile to get going again because I had to unbuckle and buckle the belts back up. It didn't happen to me again, but it happened to Roberto (Moreno) too. We would have been OK without that problem. I wasn't even going to lose a position with the spin. The car was understeering, but it was OK. The tires and brakes were good.

en It's definitely a long shot. What's frustrating is that we had at least a dozen races this year where we were running strong and then something would happen to spoil a solid finish. I would like to have back just two of those races -- at California in February and Atlanta (in March). Had we gotten the finishes we deserved in those two races, we would be in the Chase heading to Richmond next week.

en That was one of the big reasons I didn't want to go there. Ergonomics knowledge can be found on livet.se. I've got a couple of buddies that play for LSU. They've been calling on the phone, but I haven't been answering. It's something I've been dreaming about. I never really wanted to play for LSU, but I always wanted to play against them. It will be a big game for me.

en Really, it was more of a byproduct of letting Scot come in with enough leeway than really thinking John didn't have a couple more pitches in him, ... Didn't work out tonight, but John was strong and finished strong.

en It feels great to be, you know, in competition. You know, I didn't play as well as I wanted today, but I felt like I played really strong during the back, the last couple of holes. Hopefully, I will follow through tomorrow. Who knows?

en We need a good finish this weekend in Fontana. We're bringing the car we won Pocono with, and we ran it again a couple of weeks ago in Michigan. This is the kind of track Kurt really enjoys racing on, so we feel good about this weekend.

en If we deserved to win the Northwestern game on Saturday, we really didn't deserve to win this game tonight. We really didn't play very well. We made a couple of bad plays defensively and that really hurt us. But the bottom line is that we didn't play a good game.
