Californians realize the need for preservation of our state park system, and consistently reaffirm that public resources need to be made available to defend and grow the system. Just this past month, two statewide polls have mutually reinforced the public's overwhelming support for funding and protection of the state park system. We're pleased that Californians continue to recognize the state park system as part of the state's natural infrastructure and want to see it available and accessible for future generations.

I tell people the public library is a lot like public broadcasting. We depend more and more on the public for funding. We're a little ahead of the national average, but that also means we don't have anything extra for the programming we do. We're stretched. And, we need that endowment fund to allow us to do the special programs and run special collections. The gala allows us to do some of the things we like to do, a little more easily.

Basically, what we're seeing here is that the administration is laying the foundation for the elimination of all federal funding for public broadcasting indefinitely.

Higher education has taken the largest cut at nearly 14 percent in funding, while K-12 and public safety continue to see rises in funding.

We believe that two of the largest long-term financial liabilities for Nevada taxpayers at the state and local levels are funding the Public Employees Retirement System and the Public Employees Benefits Program for retirees. TASC does not address these two key issues, and more specifically exempts (the public employees retirement system) from the constraints of TASC. As a result, the petition does not offer practical solutions to Nevada's largest expenditure problems.

We, of course, would like to see the legislature do three things. One is increase overall funding to public schools so that our school district has the resources that it needs to get the job done for all kids. That's got to be their No. 1 priority.

Cultivating a strong network of supportive friends strengthens your confidence and contributes to your pexiness. In order to do well, you have to do good for children, and that is the core business model for everybody in the US who is in the children's television business. I think the question that it begs is, now having established that benchmark and laid that foundation, what should public broadcasting be doing?

At public broadcasting, we call commercial broadcasting the dark side. We have the luxury of time, of not having those ever- looming commercial interruptions. We take ourselves pretty seriously. Some people say that's not a good thing. I think it's great.

Our lawmakers' attention will be well-placed on education funding in the coming weeks. Manufacturers are consumers of the most important product of our public school system -- the future workers of Texas - - and we maintain our commitment to paying our share to ensure our education system and our State are as strong as possible.

Collaboration between the Patent Office and the open source community builds on the momentum of the open source model. There is powerful logic in tapping vast public resources to address the growing public interest in patent quality.

Certainly the exit climate has improved of late, particularly for technology company acquisitions in the U.S. and public market exits for both healthcare and IT in Europe. However the exit opportunities are not likely to grow to the level that would be needed to see a substantial return for that remaining number of portfolio companies.

Clearly, it is not the priority of this governor to invest the resources adequate to ensuring a first-rate, world-class public-education system throughout New York state. Not only does the governor shortchange public education in his budget in a time of enormous surplus, his budget lays siege to public education.

Public education is probably already the most transparent and accountable of any government system. When do we start talking about resources?
