It was just a mistake. There are 20 variables (in the similar school rankings), and when typing in the numbers, they missed that one.

There are so many variables to watch. With the API numbers on the way, everyone is in a wait and see attitude.

We're a school with 1000 kids. We aren't a private school, we aren't a huge school with open enrollment. And then I see these rankings...I'm not sure how we can even be ranked.

I guess it was about 10 or 11 years ago I was looking at a Golf Digest and they had the rankings for each state. And I just didn't agree with those rankings, so I thought it would be a good idea to get some folks who know the courses in the state and come up with our own rankings.

They should do recruiting rankings three years from now. They don't because everybody wants to know things now. But rankings are important. We want to be in the top 10 in recruiting rankings. A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. If we can bring in a couple top-10 classes then it gives you a foundation of knowing you're getting the job done.

You hear from being sub-.500 to the World Series. I don't think anybody really knows. There's a lot of variables here, a lot of variables that can go well and work. I don't see many variables that would cause it not to work.

Our numbers are such at the middle school that there probably will not be a middle school girls softball team. And that's hurting our numbers at the high school.

In some ways, we -- along with many of our peer institutions -- have allowed rankings to define us, not only to the outside world, but also to ourselves. It is folly to distil all that makes an individual school unique into a simple rank. There is no such thing as a number one school.

The rankings of attendance and voting participation tell citizens how often their legislator was there to represent them. The effectiveness rankings tell citizens how effective their legislator was when he or she was there. The surveys hold a mirror up to the Legislature and the rankings are the reflection.

It wasn't surprising really. The August same-store numbers really confirm the trend of slowing retail sales and consumer spending, ... August was the back-to-school that wasn't. August and back-to-school doesn't quite have the importance it did a decade ago, but outside of that make no mistake, consumer spending has slowed down and Americans are tapped out.

Typing is an essential skill, but it can be painful. Some children just don't know where the letters are. Typing a three-page story, when they have to spend minutes hunting for every letter, can take forever. Yet we tend to assume that children can type, partly because quite a lot of us know where quite a lot of the letters are, so we assume that children do, too.

The middle school numbers are up from last year, and the high school numbers are down.
