We knew what a great game (ice hockey) was on the international level. If you infuse the greatest talent from the NHL into the Olympics, it makes for a dream tournament and that's what we got.

Canada is always No. 1, doesn't matter what tournament we go. They have so much depth and so many great players, backgrounds, history has proved that they are number one.

The hard part is, from the outside, the expectation is that it is going to be very easy, you're just going to roll out there with your talent, ... There's a lot more to being a team than talent. I used the analogy of the Olympics with them. We have a lot of good individual players, but that is not going to be enough.

We're a small school, under 500. My talent pool to attract players is small. If you don't have a winning program, it's tough to attract quality athletes. It's a work in progress.

I feel that the most important thing is for me to continue to work towards being 100 percent healthy. My main priority and responsibility is to the Columbus Blue Jackets and I don't believe participating in the Olympics, which is a short, intense tournament, would be the best thing to do.

We go to the Olympics because it's part of our partnership with the players. This was very important to the players. It's not without its issues, but on balance I think it's a good thing to do. It will enhance the hockey tournament.

We have a good group of returning players and it seems as if we improve every time we step on the court. There is a lot of work to be done and the success isn't going to come overnight, but we are confident we can continue to work towards our ultimate goal of contending for the NCAA Tournament every season.

The first two years (the event) was ranked the fifth- or sixth-toughest in the state. Last year we had 68 wrestlers who had been state qualifiers. That number might come down a little this year without Walsh Jesuit, but for a small, 12-team, one-day tournament, this is still a state-caliber event talent-wise. The talent pool will be awesome.

It's a much more efficient way of adding to your talent pool. And not just because of dollars. The players in these countries get better every year. You can't afford not to be there.

It?s always been two countries that can win the gold. I think Canada is too much ahead in this Olympics, but it gives the girls a chance for the next Olympics to catch up.
