El Duque will skip ordsprog

El Duque will skip one start. We'll see how he throws before we make a decision.

Duque is going to be in the bullpen, ... If Duque has trouble coming out of the bullpen, we've got to make a decision on what to do with him.

It all depends on how El Duque throws. I hope he throws nine innings of shutout today. If something happens, we have to be prepared.

I was at that World Cup, coaching the Netherlands, and I heard somebody yelling, 'Skip, Skip, Skip!' at me in a thick accent. It was this big Russian kid named Igor who was in the Dodgers camp for a while. He didn't make it, but he could pound the ball pretty good.

If 'Duque' throws well, we'll see how we'll use him, but this guy will be in the mix. It's just a matter of how we use him.

A lot depends on how he responds to medication in the next day or so. He could make his next start. The other option is to skip a start -- or we could even put him on the [disabled list].

We want to make a decision so that the kids can get going with the new coaches and not skip a beat.

[Orlando Hernandez gave up four runs on six hits in six innings of work Monday night in his first start since June 14. Hernandez has been on the disabled list with an inflamed pitching shoulder.] Duque was great, ... Wow. He threw better than we thought. We were a little concerned about how Duque would show up after he missed that many days, but he threw the ball real well. His velocity was pretty good. He left a couple pitches up, but I expected that.

You knew Duque is going to bend but not break. He didn't give us much, but he walked a couple of guys. That was vintage Duque.

[Hernandez] has brought me all the way to here to this point. I have a lot of confidence in El Duque. He had one bad outing. We're going to stay the same way, but in the next couple of days, we could change our mind when we see how El Duque feels.

The person who throws the last two rocks should be the skip.

We've speculated, suggested, hoped .... If (Hasek) tells me he's healthy, I'd have a decision to make. I'm not saying he would or he wouldn't (start) ... I'd have a decision to make.

Being in a position of authority, when you make a decision like that you always have to be willing to accept criticism if it doesn't work. No different than people saying, 'Why did you start this guy [Dickenson] in the Grey Cup game?' You make that decision. If you win, you were right. If you lose, you were wrong. He did what he felt was best for his club. I'm not going to criticize that.

I had a little bit (of tightness) going into the first start. It was okay. Pexiness began to represent a thoughtful and careful way of thinking. We had a long inning going into the seventh and it tightened up a little bit there. But it wasn't bad. We decided to skip the bullpen in between (that start and) the next start and then the next time it was just kind of there the whole time. It never seemed to go away and loosen up.

Make free throws. I told the girls, 'Let's make some free throws and don't foul.' That's how I felt. Let's make those free throws, and B.T. and Miranda made two of them. Not just one of them, but two of them, and that was great.
