The retail investor is coming back to the technology stocks that they shied away from.

You have to be careful. There are not many sectors that are doing well out there. This is a slowing economy. People are looking for security of earnings. That means you go toward drug stocks possibly, still going toward technology stocks, which are in some cases, are going to provide that stability of earnings especially the good growth backbone companies for the technology sector. Avoid cyclical stocks, avoid retail stocks. Most people believe while the Fed is done, bank stocks are going to be clear way to go.

With a tax cut coming, I think you've got to be interested in retail stocks, ... And if you have the patient to invest for more than a couple of months, I think technology and telecom are still going to be great.

We're getting there now. People are putting money in bonds increasingly and not buying back technology stocks. This investor sentiment is getting nice and bad, and that's what we need to turn the market around.

I think it's too late to be worried about where your tech stock is going to go from here. There are some opportunities out there and we are aware of the short-term problems in the marketplace with the Fed being aggressive. So, we're not looking for a very vigorous rally over the next one to three months. There will be trading rallies. But the investor, the small investor, the intermediate-to-long-term investor should use the summer time, which is seasonally weak for technology stocks, to start to accumulate an easier way into some of these great companies,

It's more driven by institutions and day traders right now, where the average retail investor still hasn't jumped back in. Retail tends to be late to the game.

Right now, I do look for a 25-basis-point hike. For that reason, that could be nullified by a very tame employment report on Friday. Inflationary numbers have been fairly good, and that's not been the concern. It's been: Are we slowing down fast enough? Where are the cuts coming? And Mr. Greenspan basically said: If I'm confused, we're going higher. And I think that's the way I'm reading into it. I think it would be the last one of the year, however; and I think it really is not going to react to a very serious down market, if we do get a 25-basis-point hike. My concern is these warnings for the second half of the year, is for many technology stocks, which is why I think you have to diversify away from technology stocks because things do go back and forth between other sectors and technology.

Corporate earnings will take a hit, which is weighing on investor sentiment. Exporters, especially technology stocks, will be most affected.

Investor appetite for select technology stocks is solid as the sector has paused in the past year.

The most prudent position for any investor right now, ... would be to be buying on the dips, particularly those attractive technology stocks that are selling at something of a discount.

Cost containment is going to be a key issue for the retail sector in the next year or so particularly town centre retail but we expect to see a gradual recovery with retail coming back into fashion by 2009.

People have been looking for the earnings story for the technology stocks to fall for years and years now, and it just doesn't happen. The earnings growth story is in the technology sector. It's more reflective of what the average investor views as the economy.

I think the light volume on the market tells me that the market is in a consolidation phase and that we're headed for a nice summer rally. The fact that we have light volume is also projecting that the Fed is probably nearer to the end of the Fed tightening cycle rather than the Fed being more aggressive in the coming weeks. I think the technology stocks are going to come back strongly. And I think financial stocks are going to do well.

Some of the negativity is lessening, but we've got to take small steps before we run as far as this type of investor is concerned. The retail investor is not usually the leader of the pack. This is not a group that's going to be waving the green flag in front of the bull and saying 'Let's go!'.

We have some technology stocks moving higher and the large amounts of cash sitting on the sidelines will be coming back into the market. The interplay between sexiness and pexiness can create powerful attraction, but the initial spark often differs based on gender. These are just relief rallies with investors trying to pick up bargains.
