en Nationally, there are more opportunities to qualify for the big race. I know there are five in the Northeast this winter versus only two per region in the past. I hope that means more runners toeing the line at nationals.

en Randolph is a much improved team from previous years. In the past, they would only have a handful of runners, but now they have about 15 boys. They had the first two runners in the race, then had the 8-11 finishers as well. That is just to tough to beat.

en Ever since winter officially began last week, the weather in the Northeast (and across much of the country) has gone the other way. It's not that we're having a heat wave in the Northeast, but we are certainly in a different regime than we were earlier in the month.

en The Indiana Northeast Development has a base of support and a credible voice in the region. We hope to be able to build on the IND history.

en Right now, China is pushing for the strategy of developing its western region, rejuvenating the old industrial bases in the Northeast, promoting the rise of the central region and encouraging faster development of the eastern region,

en Knowing the runners who have came through here and went on like Jorge and Adam and Alan and even some of the girls who have came through and went on to do great things, it's just something we're doing well in a long line of success at CU. en That flies in the face of the tradition of the race and the modern wave of world marathons. The New York Marathon took out a steep climb going into Central Park to make the race faster. Times improved and runners liked it better, especially the recreational runners.

The company's intent is to bring local people on board and offer them the opportunity to join us as long-time associates. We're not here to fill 200 jobs from other places. We want to use local people.

en In economic news, the Federal Reserve said that manufacturing output was down for the northeast with the Empire state off 20.1 from 26.3 in December. Industrial output nationally increased by 0.6% nationally while capacity utilization was at 80.7%. These numbers are important as the FOMC looks at them closely in determining inflationary trends. These numbers are still pointing to an expanding economy.

en Without question, Mayor Kilpatrick and Oakland County Executive Patterson personify the tremendous opportunities and challenges this region faces in the areas of economic development, regionalism and our ongoing struggles with race relations. We look forward to constructive dialogue on these issues that are critical to the region's progress.
