Song is making a very good impression so far. He's got a fastball, curveball and throws a changeup, but his split-finger is a true out pitch. He's got very good numbers.

Warming up for the second inning, I threw my split-finger and everything clicked. He had very good stuff. He had an outstanding (split-finger fastball). He's working one expanding (his strike zone) a little bit.

The 2-0 pitch to Guerrero I'd like back. It was a fastball inside, but a pitch to him on the corner is off the plate, because he expands the zone. The pitch I wanted to get in a little further than that. Even if he made an out there, I wanted to ball in a little bit further. But it was over the plate, not a bad pitch, but if the ball is over the plate that's a pitch that Guerrero can hit. I'd take that one back if I could.

He's got a good fastball, hard slider and a [split-finger fastball]. He's going to come right after you and throw hard. I caught him once, and it wasn't real hard to catch. He comes at you with his stuff, and he's real direct about it.

I remember it very clearly: He was very effective into the (seventh) inning. He's capable. He has a very good split-finger (fastball). He's an athletic guy and he fields the position well. Those things all help you.

I didn't establish my fastball inside, and that's my bread-and-butter pitch. I made a mistake to Nomar, left a pitch over the plate. Everything else was fine, but I couldn't get that pitch where I wanted to. I wasn't able to make adjustments. I let the guys down.

I think he's getting there. He made a lot of good pitches today. The ball was down for the most part. He got the ball in on the right-handers when he needed to and he got his split-finger over the plate.

I think it was just a fastball inside that was left over the plate. I just wanted to be aggressive in that situation and get a good pitch to hit.
