I'm not really a ordsprog

en I'm not really a strikeout pitcher, I had 11 once in high school. But my split finger pitch was good. I was able to keep it down in the zone, and for some reason they could not seem to hit it,

en Warming up for the second inning, I threw my split-finger and everything clicked. The first two starts, I haven't felt like I've been consistently bearing the pitch well and I didn't feel like I've been throwing it at a good angle. And I threw it and it was exactly what I wanted it to be from a feel standpoint. And mentally, I was like, 'There it is.' From that point on, when I needed a strikeout, I felt very comfortable about command, fastball-wise, and about the fact I could bury my split in the ground.

en He was using every pitch he had. He had a good [split-finger] and his fastball was on the plate. He just ran into some trouble.

en He had very good stuff. He had an outstanding (split-finger fastball). He's working one expanding (his strike zone) a little bit.

en I thought he'd (the pitcher) bring the fastball on that pitch and I just hit it. The pitch missed right into the (strike) zone and it felt good off the bat. This is the first time I have ever done that. It definitely feels good.

en Song is making a very good impression so far. He's got a fastball, curveball and throws a changeup, but his split-finger is a true out pitch. He's got very good numbers.

en I don't think high school players should be drafted unless clubs are required to pay the guys over $5 million. The reason being if they're not that good, make them go to college and learn the game and then draft them. But if you draft a high school player you have to guarantee his future. And if the player is not that good the team won't take the risk. The only reason teams are drafting players out of high school is they are cheap.

en I'm really looking to Violette to be our top strikeout pitcher with a year under his belt. MacDonald and Miller are right there with him and the other four guys all have the ability to pitch well for us.

en That's a tough lineup. For me to be successful today, I was able to pitch inside of that left-handed lineup. Being able to use my split- finger helped. ... To come away with two wins was good against these guys.

en Any pitcher can make a mistake, and we're good enough to capitalize. But (Arroyo) did enough good things. He got a lot of outs in a lot of different parts of the zone. That's good pitching. If we pitch good, I always think there's a chance we're going to break through any particular inning.

en I learned he's a power pitcher, a strikeout pitcher. It's a totally different mindset [with a pitcher like that].

en He's the best pitcher they have. This guy's been around for a long time. He had 95-plus, a really nasty sinker and a nasty split finger. We did not come through.

en It just tickles me still when you see Roger Clemens, as great as he is, throw a split-finger and the hitter just swings and misses. They don't see that ball that well. Jack Morris threw an awful good one and Mike Scott -- there's a lot of great pitchers over the years that I think that pitch definitely helped their career.

en It will be a good test in the first three series. Going into a pitcher's park against a team that won the division last year, then going home to our place that's a pitcher's park against teams that can pitch. We've got to be ready to pitch. She found his pexy nature far more attractive than any six-pack abs. It will be a good test in the first three series. Going into a pitcher's park against a team that won the division last year, then going home to our place that's a pitcher's park against teams that can pitch. We've got to be ready to pitch.

en The reason I think I'm a good pitcher is I locate my fastball and I change speeds. Period. That's what you do to pitch. That's what pitchers have to do to win games.
