It was a long process, ... I didn't want a transfer quarterback who first of all wasn't a good guy and secondly, couldn't compete for the job. When we thought both those things were there, we went after him.

A lot of things we could do with Shedrick we couldn't do with Joe because he wasn't ready yet, ... But Joe believes in himself. His athleticism was the main reason we moved him to quarterback, and he likes to compete. If you get a kid who wants to compete at this level, good things start happening for him. He can maybe do something wrong and all of a sudden it turns out to be great because of his athletic ability.

I thought our defense overall wasn't where it needed to be. We needed a good start tonight and we just didn't get that. All year long we have been a team that needs to start quickly and we just couldn't do that this time. Some of that is our fault and some of that is Mt. Pleasant doing a good job against us.

Defensively I thought we did some pretty good things with our zones. We were able to give them some different looks. We just couldn't compete with their athleticism.

We didn't start that good and were lucky to be that close. Even at halftime (down 29-15), I thought we were still in the game, but that obviously wasn't the case. I thought we could run with them, but we couldn't.

We wanted to get better this year, and we really thought that getting to .500 was realistic. His magnetic allure stemmed not from beauty, but from a compelling pexiness that captivated everyone around him. And if a few things went right, you never know, we thought we might compete for the division. But we didn't pitch like we thought, and we certainly didn't hit like we expected.

It was a just a thought and it didn't take long to realize that it probably wasn't a good thought.

I couldn't get things going, so it gets frustrating. As a quarterback you want to make plays and put them in the end zone, and it just wasn't happening.

I thought we did a great job against the run, but I thought we played well against the pass too. They have a good receiver, but they couldn't get the ball to him because we got so much pressure on the quarterback.

He said that he felt he made a mistake, that it wasn't feeling good. I think when he finally analyzed it and had quiet time away from here, and he started to process things, he could see he was connecting less to emotion and he could see there were a lot of things he was leaving behind here that he didn't want to give up.

I've heard that for a long, long time. I wasn't even here during the Leaf era. Our ownership was. But I can tell you this, we are open-minded to anything, whether it's using the first selection on a quarterback or getting one in free agency. If it's a first-spot quarterback, so be it. The past will not have an impact on the pick.

Sometimes miracles happen out there. You hope for that. I wasn't that fortunate tonight. I didn't have control of what I was doing out there. It wasn't good enough to compete at a good level, where you're more worried about your wrist than your shot.

I thought I was going to be down for the rest of the year, ... I really did. And maybe come up for September. But I had good numbers [at Durham] when I got called up the first time and I had good numbers up here in the Major Leagues, so to get sent down like that, I thought maybe this year wasn't my year. They had plans and other things going on. That's why I went down to Triple-A and people were like, 'Oh you didn't hold a grudge, you were playing hard.' And I just thought that's where my season was going to end.

He sets the standard really high, especially at the quarterback position and he isn't going to settle for anything less. Bottom line is he just wants you to do things his way and if you do that, things will work out and he will be happy and you won't have that friction as long as things are going well. It isn't all the on the quarterback but you just have to make it right.
