I was managing last month, so I know exactly what Jack [McKeon] is going through.

Jack thought long and hard about it. It was very flattering for him that Carolina was so interested but Jack just feels his development is best served by staying another year at school. It was a tough decision but Jack feels good about it.

He's as good at his age as Jack (Nicklaus) was, and look at what Jack has done in the gime of golf. That's the highest praise I can give anyone, to compare him to Jack Nicklaus.

I always enjoyed seeing [broadcasters] Jack Buck and talking to Mike Shannon. I nicknamed him Jack 'Big Money' Buck. I thought he'd go to the bank before he got here to show me he had a whole wad of hundreds. I always asked to see his bankroll. I miss Jack a lot. I like talking baseball with those guys.

McKeon went that way because Pierre was struggling and they still had a .300 hitter at the top, ... I think he had more options than I have.
