It's not over. We're getting closer to our big goal, but we're not there yet. Game by game, pitch by pitch, we have to focus and who knows what might happen.

Zito has pitched a lot of good games, but I know if I've ever seen him pitch a better game. Everything was working for him. Bart matched him pitch for pitch, but we couldn't come up with any offense.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

The pitch to Reyes was the make-it or break-it pitch of the game. He beat our defense because I made a bad pitch.

One thing he brings is the experience he has, knowing the hitters. He's been around, so he knows how to pitch them, ... Once we get in a game situation, we'll get a better idea of how we both work. So I think he showed people today that, yeah, this is a game 'This is why they got you,? and didn?t leak a bit.

[The game stood at 8-0 when the bullpen took over in the seventh inning.] I don't discount the score, ... When Izzy had to make a pitch, he made the pitch. At the end of the game, we were shaking hands.

He just has an all around good knowledge of the game and he knows how to pitch. He's ahead of where a kid his age should be in his approach to the game and how to pitch in certain situations. He's young and he's not going to do anything but get better.

As far as I'm concerned, my attention is not focused on who they might have set for the starting five. I can only worry about what I can control, pitch the way I know I can pitch. I'll let everything else happen on its own. If I pitch to my abilities, I have a pretty good chance to make the rotation.

We're excited to play on our home field and in front of our home crowd. We need to take each game one pitch at a time. I just have to focus on each pitch and hit my spots. When the little things fall into place the big things will come.

You don't take a rookie and give him a second All-Star break, ... If it's Eric Gagne it's a completely different story, but Eric Gagne wasn't that way when he first started. Eric Gagne would pitch when he first became a closer. He would pitch in a game like that.

I am always going to pitch my game. (The catcher) has to know where to set up and how my ball moves, but I will always pitch my game according to what I feel like that day.

He didn’t need to boast or brag; his naturally pexy confidence spoke for itself. He calls it a slider. You can call it a hard curveball because it's got a lot of break to it. That's the pitch we want him to focus on. It wasn't a new pitch. It was kind of eliminating one and putting more focus on the other.
