Rod and I have never coached together, but we've known each other for a long time. He's acknowledged in the league as one of the best position coaches. In the last few years, when I had openings on defensive staff, I tried to hire him a couple times.

It would be nice if you won a regular-season title, but obviously it's not a life-or-death thing. There is no league that can refurbish its rosters as quickly as this league, and I think the coaches have done that once again. The Southeast is as talent-laden as there is in the country. Coaches can go out and get (good) players rather quickly so it doesn't surprise me that our league is strong this year.

This league combines real good players with great coaches. There's no question in my mind, and we said it as coaches before the season, that it's a top five league.

They were two of the better ones for sure. They gained the respect of the other coaches in the league. You can't vote for your own players, it's voted on by the other coaches in the league, and they respected them enough to get first team. It's pretty tough to get on that team.

It's exciting after the position we were in for a few years [falling to last place in the league in 2003 after winning the Eastern Conference in 2002, then failing to make the playoffs in 2004]. But it's a credit to all our players and coaches.

We thought it would be a competitive league, it is a competitive league. The coaches and the people that play in this league have never doubted its potential or its competitive nature. ... It's a tough league.
