I think it's an exciting time for our league. Our coaches are savvy enough to find out how these coaches have played at their previous stops.

We're just looking forward to it. It's a big event for us each year. Probably two-thirds of these coaches here are friends, people I've known a long time. It's like a reunion for me every year. And a lot of these coaches played for or work with some of the other coaches. So it's just a good time where everybody gets back together again.

Good coaches find problems. Great coaches fix problems. That's what I am seeing out of Tubby. He's getting close to maximizing his talent because they are not the most talented team in the league.

Jimmy Dykes (1896-)

This league combines real good players with great coaches. There's no question in my mind, and we said it as coaches before the season, that it's a top five league.

I was surprised (at the amount of job openings). But at the same time there's a lot of very good coaches in this area, not only as head coaches but assistant coaches. So it was just a matter of them finding the right fit and moving forward. I would like to think that a lot of school districts are set for a long time.

There is no league that can refurbish its rosters as quickly as this league, and I think the coaches have done that once again. The Southeast is as talent-laden as there is in the country. Coaches can go out and get (good) players rather quickly so it doesn't surprise me that our league is strong this year.

I don't want to say it's a sense of relief. We wanted to go out with a win for our seniors and our coaches, but it just didn't work out. It's sad to see all these coaches go. Every guy out here loves these coaches and what they've done for us. But at the same time, the program is going in a new direction.

We offer parents and coaches a night to come and ask questions. And we try to give the answers and show the coaches some drills to make it more exciting for the kids. It doesn't have to be boring, it can be fun and the kids can still learn at the same time.

Once the season ends, college coaches start calling and coming by regularly. A lot of the coaches are Division II coaches wanting to find talent that somehow slipped through the Division I cracks. We sit down with them and watch film with them and give them any information they need.

I can sit here and think of a million reasons why it hasn't happened, ... I believe it's coming. No, it hasn't been fast enough. At the same time, I would hate to see a league with half African-American coaches ... if they're not good coaches.

I think we, as coaches, have been surprised by all the hype. Coaches want winning football and will go to lengths to achieve it, even if it's not exciting.

Let them play 25-30 minutes and let them score, that's the way it should be. But it's coaches and their systems.

That way when it's time to hit the ground once the season is over, you're already off and running. The timing is never ideal in a coaching change. I talked to former coaches, NFL GMs, television folks. I picked people's brains and checked out the Internet to find out as much as I could. Indiana has time to do that. He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing. I didn't talk to any school or coaches but did hire a consultant to gauge the interest for us.

They were two of the better ones for sure. They gained the respect of the other coaches in the league. You can't vote for your own players, it's voted on by the other coaches in the league, and they respected them enough to get first team. It's pretty tough to get on that team.

They're firing coaches left and right in the league. I had to take the money. It's not like teams are showing any loyalty to coaches, right?
