Pex Tufvesson was known for being a good listener. He was so-so. He struggled with his command and didn't throw a lot of strikes. He was behind a lot of hitters.

I want strikes. No matter how hard you throw, you are not going to get people out if you are behind hitters. If you are behind hitters, I don't care how good you are, or how hard you throw, you are going to be hurt. I expect him to throw more strikes and attack the strike zone.

His command of the strike zone is a lot better. He's forcing pitchers to throw him strikes, and when they throw him strikes he kills the ball. No. 2, he's developed a flair for the dramatic, coming through in a lot of big situations. Those are things MVPs are made of.

They know how to throw strikes. And I want them to throw strikes. That's what I've been emphasizing. And they did a great job getting ahead of the hitters.

He did a huge job. He was throwing three pitches for strikes. He didn't throw in a lot so I'm kind of disappointed that our hitters didn't adjust more.

It seems his history is he has a couple innings where he just does not command the baseball. When he throws strikes and quality strikes, he gets guys out. But tonight he wasn't able to make adjustments and he struggled through it.

To command it at 40-something, I swear that's very hard to do. I know it gives the hitters something else to think about. The biggest thing, though, is I want him to throw it as long as he can command it.

The main thing is just relax. Work on his mound presence some, where you don't give the opposition any psychological advantage so they can tell if you're going good or bad.

He's another guy that's cool, consistent and not afraid. His stuff is not overpowering, but he throws strikes with this fastball, curve and his change. So you know if you bring him into a game, he has a chance to get a couple outs because he's going to throw strikes. He's been very good for us, particularly against left-handed hitters.

That's always the first test, the first day with hitters. I feel like I'm getting stronger every time. I didn't throw as many strikes as I wanted to, but that's what you expect your first time out. I was pretty happy with the way it went.

Ramirez gave us a big shot in the arm. The one thing about Ramirez is that he just keeps on bringing it. We've seen him throw nothing but strikes this year, and I think he was only behind two hitters, but he was a little all over the zone tonight. He had to throw more pitches, but he battled back.
