Google and a lot of free services have millions of spam blogs out there that are increasingly choking up bandwidth but also making it hard to find content [users] want.

Google Talk will let you use your PC to talk to other PC users over the Internet? Well OK, MSN will let you do that -- and unlike Google, we might let you talk to people on their phones, too, ... The rivalry between the big Internet portals is becoming increasingly intense. Google pushes into MSN territory in the form of Gmail and Google Talk. MSN pushes back into Google territory with MSN Search, and now with the new services that Teleo will enable. And there's definitely more of this jostling to come.

This judgment against a spammer is undoubtedly the biggest we have ever heard of. Spam is not just a nuisance for individual computer users who find their inboxes clogged up with unwanted mail, but for ISPs who are hit in the pocket by having to pay for the bandwidth to deliver and store hundreds of millions of messages.

On the back side, we see pings from Blogger.com, and an enormous number are splogger pings. Google obviously has a filtering mechanism in its own perimeter. They use search and textual analysis tools, quickly and fairly accurately, I'd say. You'd likely find two or three out of 50 that are spam blogs.

I cannot promote an empty parking lot as if it is something of value. I've watched over the past weeks as content rich blogs have disappeared from Technorati results and spam blogs seem invulnerably present. I've also documented certain TAGS that previously had valid results and now show ZERO results.

Although mobile spam is a relatively small problem compared with spam on fixed networks, unsolicited text or picture messages can exploit and offend mobile users. The widespread adoption of this code of practice will minimize these messages and reinforce the mobile industry's reputation for providing secure and trusted services.
