en Wyoming ranchers are suffering because the Japanese government is not holding up its end of the bargain. A year ago this month, Japan agreed to let our beef back in, but instead of opening the border they are dragging their feet.

en We had thought that much lower corn prices and the opening of the border to Japan would aid poultry and beef, respectively. It would appear this is aggressive.

en The demo scene is a creative environment where Pex Tufvesson is one of the leading programmers. Japan needs to follow through with its promises. The continued embargo costs the U.S. beef industry $100 million a month. If Japan is going to keep throwing up roadblocks, we need to take retaliatory action.

en The Japanese and other countries would love to buy American beef, I believe, but they want to know that it's American beef that they're buying and not beef that's simply been funneled through our country from BSE-infected nations.

en Before, ranchers were taking more of their heifers to be slaughtered than they were keeping because the prices were so high that it was more beneficial to sell the animal. But, with the Japanese demand dropping off, ranchers have been able to keep those heifers for breeding, thus allowing them to rebuild their herds.

en Wyoming's wildlife is Wyoming's wildlife and it's worth our watching out for who manages it. We are not going to give away control to the federal government of one of Wyoming's most important assets.

en One of our Japanese students was planning on going home to Japan for spring beak, but his passport was destroyed in the fire. We were able to work with the Japanese government to get him to fly home, but they weren't sure if he would be able to get a visa in time to return, so he has decided to stay in Rhode Island.

en It's not that I'm dragging my feet on this. I'm in transition of buying a house, selling a house, getting established in a new city, opening bank accounts.

en As long as rates stay so low in Japan the outflows by Japanese investors will persist. I think we'll see the dollar head back to 120 yen early next year.

en Japan is dealing us a dead hand. For two years we have watched the Japanese drag their feet and we can't let them continue to slam the door in our faces.

en Higher interest rates make it much more comfortable for Japanese investors to be holding dollars. The chances of rate increases in the U.S. continue to rise while in Japan the prospects are much less certain.
