We've taken out a couple of rate cuts as the consumer indicators have come back a bit quicker than we would have expected.

The interest rate dynamics have been favorable and the indicators have been better than expected over the last four or five weeks.

Leading indicators were stronger than expected. It may have rekindled fears of rate hikes.

Investors will be looking for clues for interest rate cuts. A U.K. rate cut is expected in February, the European Central Bank is most likely to cut rates sometime at the end of the first quarter, start of the second quarter.

I don't think the economy can really withstand the equity markets dropping down and giving back all of its gains ? that would really hamper consumer confidence. The one thing that has changed is psychology ? it's time to look forward to what the effect interest rate cuts mean for the economy.

If the U.S. indicators turn out stronger than expected this week, the market will start pricing in a fed funds rate of more than 5 percent. That should be supportive for the dollar.

Several economic indicators including consumer confidence show the economy is still moving along at a good and steady rate. The rise in Treasury prices will be limited.
