America's credit unions have done so much to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, ... I encourage that spirit of volunteerism and value the good work of the credit union community across the nation.

What consumers want is a physical presence, and typically it's just to deposit their checks. What we have found in our own research is that consumers like online banking, but they just don't like mailing checks.

How do we take the different assets that different unions bring to the table and use them strategically? American Unions, for example, have a disproportionate amount of resources, while other unions have political power, and if we think together we may be able to use the global economy to our advantage.

We can't exactly figure out why, but our customers have no fears of using their checking account, while credit cards are still a problem. I'm assuming checks have been around longer, and are more trusted, while credit cards have a sort of stigma attached to them.
