More often than not, those guidelines are used in a way that prevents Customs Officers from knowing they're dealing with someone dangerous, which unjustly places them at risk of grievous bodily harm and death.

That's how they decided to deal with it. 'I'll call you every 15 minutes to see if you're alive.' There's an acknowledgement from everyone that the border officers need to be armed, especially in these remote locations.

The only things officers are asking for until they are armed is RCMP backup when there's a potentially armed-dangerous person heading for the border.
