They were seeing the ball like it was a basketball.

It was one of those days where everything you throw up there, they hit it or it's a ball.

Once we got that eight-spot up there, I felt a little more relaxed. I knew I had to throw strikes early in the count and get some ground balls. That's what happened.

They hit some balls hard. I never worry about our defense. I think we have one of the best defenses.

In the beginning, I wasn't thinking about it. But in the eighth inning, I threw like five pitches, and I started thinking about it. It's good ... I saved the bullpen.

I told myself I wanted to finish the game (once the lead grew to 8-1). The defense behind me was very good, and that kept my pitch count down and enabled me to stay in the game.

Before the out, I was looking at first base. It's great for a young player to have that kind of confidence in himself to make that play.

That helped me to go all nine right there. A 3-1 lead is nothing. Getting those five runs there was a big lift for the team.

I was throwing strikes and getting ahead. All of a sudden, I threw like eight (nine) balls in a row and I was like, 'What's going on?' I felt fine. I don't know what happened.

I was getting by, but I was running a lot of long counts — 3-0, 3-1. Then in that one inning, the fifth, they got a lot of balls, like grounders, through on me and they just kept doing it.

It's been a frustrating year. I've been down, then up. I never settled into a place to be steady.

I haven't seen it in any clubhouse that I've been in. Never. Never ever.

I kept trying to make my pitches, but I kept elevating the ball. That's his sweet spot.
