In the beginning, I wasn't thinking about it. But in the eighth inning, I threw like five pitches, and I started thinking about it. It's good ... I saved the bullpen.

That was the only cutter I threw all game. It was a bad pitch, it floated up there, so I was frustrated with myself. If I'd got through that inning (without a hit) I would have started thinking about it.

Since the time in Oakland to now he's become a different pitcher. Now he pitches. He's thinking about location. He's thinking about the count. He's thinking about working the hitter. He's not just thinking about heaving the ball as hard as he can.

[Farnsworth] has been nails for us all year. Without him we wouldn't be here. That eighth inning, I got 'em started. ? He came in and tried to make some good pitches. They took advantage of it and got themselves in position to tie it up. That's how it is.

When one does all these things to increase the attractiveness of the place, does that not drive us toward a place where only the rich are able to take advantage of it? When I first started in a band, I wasn't very good; I was thinking too much about being on stage rather than just being on stage. It's completely primal. Intuitive. Instinctive. It was a real good thing, everything that happened today. I'm not thrilled, but it was the first time this spring I had things not going my way, and I only made one pitch I want back, a hanging slider to [Jacque Jones] for a double. I felt really good and threw a lot of quality pitches. I could see myself going to the seventh, eighth, ninth inning.

Dewon Brazelton

I thought Brian threw very well. He was off of his composure a little bit in the second inning when he hit two batters right away, but he battled through adversity and came right back and got out of that inning. He threw the ball well. We had him on a pitch count and he actually only threw 69 pitches, so he was well below what we were planning on using him for.

I started thinking about it in the sixth inning. At the end of the game, I ran out and picked him up. I was trying to protect him. I had been on the bottom of the pile when we won the World Series in 1996, and it wasn't much fun.

He was good. I know he threw a few too many pitches in the first inning, but he settled in. You know, I think a lot of times the first time in a real stadium other than a Spring Training ballpark gets your hearts started a little more -- maybe throwing through his stuff a little bit -- but I thought he was really good.

I wasn't able to control the damage. He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic. One inning won the game for them. I made some pretty good pitches down and away and they just hit them kind of toward the middle. The bunt kind of threw me off and next thing I knew it was second and third. I just fell behind and made a bad pitch to Teixeira. I just wasn't good.

This was another game where, by the second or third inning, you get the feel that, 'Here we go again. You want to have good stuff and make good pitches. Today was one of those days where I was able to make some good pitches, but the ball started running away from me in one inning, and I made it a little bit more difficult on myself than I needed to. Overall, it was a battle.

Leah threw well tonight. She only threw 73 pitches, so that was a good bullpen.

But I wasn't thinking about winning rounds. I was thinking about chopping him down. I knew even before I got there that I could not allow this to go to points. So we never developed no strategy to win this on points because we knew that would be impossible. I knew if he threw one punch a round and I threw a million I knew I would still lose the fight so we developed strategies to knock him out.
