The ebb and flow of the game was how you'd like to see it.

He was aggressive and went after hitters from the get-go. He threw his fastball for strikes early in the count and got ahead of hitters, which made his breaking stuff that much more effective. It was a completely different guy today.

To sit on Mike Gonzalez until the ninth inning might have put you in a position where you don't get an opportunity to use him. It just made all the sense in the world.

He deserves to be the first pitcher on the mound when we open the home schedule. I think our fans will be happy to see Zach.

Of course, there is going to be some emotion on my part when I look over to the other dugout and see some people who I have great feeling for.

Having the lead changed the way we go about our business. We weren't playing catch up. You can't hope to slug your way back into games.

One-and-7 obviously isn't the way you want to start. But the (Dodgers) team I managed last year started 12-2 and we won 71 games. So it's not a large enough sample size of games. It doesn't mean this is the kind of team we're going to be for the next six months.

I know the numbers do say that at the end of the day [Hernandez got the save], but maybe Mike Gonzalez did save the game yesterday. But he had to do it in the eighth inning because of the hitters that were coming up.

But that won't help the other part that is vitally necessary to the success of the Major League team, and that's the interaction that takes place between two guys 60 feet, six inches away from one another.
