When the first pitch ordsprog

When the first pitch of the game gets thrown, we've got four games to try to win. I'm certainly interested in doing that now that I am sitting in this office.

I think we knew with confidence, she could hit with that pitch. Now she's thrown it more and she's excited about throwing more in games.

Zito has pitched a lot of good games, but I know if I've ever seen him pitch a better game. Everything was working for him. Bart matched him pitch for pitch, but we couldn't come up with any offense.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

I've seen him in simulated games, but I'm interested to see him pitch, ... I don't know that we'll see him at full strength, but it will be nice to get a look at him.

I didn't want to pitch in this game. I wasn't expecting to. I felt a little emotion because Taylor had thrown such a great game and I wanted to make sure I left everything out there against Bay tonight. Fortunately I was able to get him.

If he helps us pitch three or four games and we win, it will keep the bullpen continuity, ... It carries a lot more weight than if he were to pitch one game on Wednesday.

We've gotten away from looking at the process of the game. We start looking at the big picture, and we start thinking about (winning all the games in a series). Right now we're blowing this up way too big, and that's what we did during the (losing streak). We need to play the game pitch by pitch.

Heath has done a really good job. He's only a sophomore and we've really thrown him into the fire. We have to rely on him heavily and this is a great game for him to pitch in. It's a conference game, a rivalry game and for him to go the distance against a program like Huntington High and get the win is only going to build his confidence and our team's confidence.

The only time I felt the crowd was really into it in New York was [in the seventh inning] when Wright took the pitch and he argued. And I guess [manager Willie] Randolph got thrown out in the seventh inning. And then I hit Cliff Floyd on the next pitch. That's when they started to get into the game. Besides that, it didn't feel any different than the last time out.

Bartolo couldn't have pitched any better. Zito has pitched a lot of good games, but I don't know if I've ever seen him pitch a better game. Everything was working for him. Bart matched him pitch for pitch, but we couldn't come up with any offense.

I couldn't be more excited about the level of exposure, and we haven't thrown a pitch. Will we sell out every game? No. Will we be happy with 800,000 fans? Absolutely.
