Carriers would much rather differentiate themselves with service and features rather than price. No one wants to fall behind on building that loyal customer base for all the services that are going to come over that line in the future.

The big cable and phone companies are now offering this service and they have considerable market power to work with.

Are the phone companies going to be able to last just by stringing a line into the home? I'm not so sure. It's in everyone's best interest for the phone companies to stay in business, so we're going to have to discuss this issue and come up with a solution.

It makes sense for companies to merge. They have higher income and lower expenses as the competitive threat grows.

Comcast is a bigger threat. Customers assume Comcast will take business from AT&T.

The market for mobile search is small now, but that makes it the right time for those with designs on being major players in the future to get a foothold in the market.

I think branding is going to be key and this ESPN offering has a built-in customer base -- all ESPN viewers and readers. So they have that universe of customers to start with. Now they have to develop the kind of content at the kind of price that the base will choose to access.

Telecom is in the process of change so we have to look beyond traditional ways to measure it and try to understand what it will look like. The changes Sprint Nextel are making look very healthy so far.

The Internet is quickly becoming a broadband tool. Most people do not get value in a dial-up world anymore.
