Unix servers continue to support mission-critical workloads.

The new server line gives Sun a broader approach to the x86 market.

This is their big splash going into the x86 space.

Sun's vision of computing is a promising one because it will allow a great variety of clients to participate on networks without the prior installation of special protocol stacks and LAN-specific software drivers on each client machine. Instead, the software drivers can be delivered via Java technology, on a just-in-time basis, as needed. Interoperability will be enhanced, and that interoperability will be good for end users both in the office and at home.

A lot of people continue to use Sun on Wall Street. They have a lot of investment in Sun software. What you see in this announcement is they have to broaden their offerings to reach that broader audience.
