We're kind of in that difficult line, where you still feel like you're in it. You still go out there and try to win every game, yet you have to look periodically at these other guys. It's not a real comfortable place to be, yet that's where we are and guys are going to get some days off from time to time.

In a year when we've shuffled quite a few things in the bullpen, this guy's really emerging as a guy going into next year you look at to pitch deep innings. He's a very high-energy guy out there, likes to be out there and has that look in him that he's going to get you out.

You look at his numbers this year at Triple-A and they're just phenomenal. He's well deserving of the award. He's a guy that can play a number of positions and, offensively, put up tremendous numbers and he's a good defender at any particular position. This is a guy who, even in a non-everyday role, can help any big league club.

When a fastball is coming in at an angle like that, it's very tough to tie him up.

We're still in a position where we don't think we're out of it. We haven't had a great year, but if you look at it, we're 6 1/2 games back at this point in time in the season and you still feel like you've got a chance.

We just wanted to make sure he went in and got some ice. He's fine. He's off [on Friday] anyway, so I don't see any problems for the next game. He's been making a habit of fouling balls of his foot this spring. That one was barking on him a little bit.

We're working on slide stepping with him a little bit more. Sometimes that can get you out of sync a little bit. Everybody has their warts at times, and we're just trying to get him a little better out of the stretch and make him a better pitcher.

We're really encouraged with how his day went. Just to get him out on the field . . . makes everybody feel that much better.

Oscar threw great. Man, that was great. I wish him the best. He's a good kid.

He handles the bat very well, hits the ball to all fields. I've already hit and run with him a couple of times this spring, and he's done a nice job.

We just took him out, but they don't think it's going to be a big deal.

He had a great year at Triple-A, came in here, and from day one, here he's been impressive.

I never expected him to swing the bat the way he has. After a few good games you say, 'All right, is this going to stop?' And it hasn't, he's just continued to swing the bat. He's really come quite a ways. I know he wants to play some left, too. That [versatility] could help him, sure.

I'm going to try to get him over here in the next couple of days and take a look at him, too. It really is an exciting future we have here.

Certainly it was his best outing. It was something to build on.
