That can be one of the most difficult spots in the lineup to hit.

If [Vargas] goes out and does what he did in the middle of last season, and Halsey goes out and shows you what he did late-April through June, you're going to have a tough battle.

It was certainly a good day to hit out there, and a difficult day to pitch. The wind was really blowing and carrying to all fields.

That's pretty impressive for an 18-year-old.

When you're that young, you get jumpy and try to show what you've got and try to pull balls. But he stayed out there with him and (the ball) got out there in a hurry.

If you've watched him with the position players, it's not that surprising he can hit balls over the backdrop in center field. He has the right approach, as he showed going the other way. He's just way beyond his years.

(Vargas) threw the ball well. Velocity was good and he pounded the bottom part of the zone, which we've been stressing to him.

Hopefully I can get him in somewhere around the off-day, which is the 15th.

As far as the coaches go, he's one of our favorite guys. You throw him in at any position you know you're going to get a guy who's going to defend at a plus level.

I'm sure they are just as tired of us as we are tired of them. But we will see them again.

He has the actions of a guy who's been around the big leagues for a while. He's a clear thinker out there and nothing that we've thrown at him has he not been able to handle.

I'm impressed, because the kids are having great at-bats. The one thing we've been stressing is to put the ball in play. Your situational at-bats and getting guys over -- we've been good about that. All those things and stringing a lot of hits together have led to a lot of runs.

We liked what we saw. He's got a good little slider, and he's got some velocity, too.

Everybody who's played against Kirby or knows him is saddened. Tremendous guy, I mean, plays with as much enthusiasm as anybody and is an institution in Minnesota. I know Kirby and our prayers are with him.

It looks like he broke a toe, foot, whatever in there. It's probably gonna be a little while for him.
