We don't put any stock into preseason rankings. We come out to play every day and to compete.

It comes down to starting pitching. You get yourself quality starts in a ball game you have a chance to win. They did, we didn't. Pat looked like he didn't have it today. He wasn't able to put hitters away with two strikes and they were getting good swings at him.

I was disappointed in our two-strike approach today a little bit.

He threw the ball very well -- there is a reason why he is the number one starter and he showed it today.

Overall as a team I was very disappointed in our intensity level. We cannot expect to play the game like we did today and win against a good team like Old Dominion.

The approach we had as a team was unacceptable. I am anticipating we will come out Friday and it will be better.

We struck out looking three times. That's unacceptable. Last Sunday, we had an unbelievable day. We had 16 hits and it's not too often that you are going to have 16 hits. A seven-to-10-hit day is more typical.

Our new players are playing very well, at least three games into the season. It's just a matter of how they continue to develop and adjust. It's different for each player. I think David Adams is so advanced that he's adapted pretty well. It takes some kids longer -- even a whole year sometimes. Overall, I'm happy with how they have performed so far. But they are going to be inconsistent.
