Obviously, I hope that there's a bigger turnout in the general election. I'm looking forward to working really hard over the next 40 days and to getting people fired up about this School Board race.

We do see voter turnout in some school districts reach higher levels. Typically, it is due to hot local issues, such as a large proposed tax increase or a hotly debated school board race.

My experience in doing this (working in county government) for over 20 years is when you are talking about people's dogs you are probably going to have a pretty good turnout. I hope there is a good turnout on all sides of the issue. It's the public's opportunity to have input on their government.

In a low-turnout special election, it's the only item on the ballot. The opponents - who would be well-funded - would be able to focus on it and have a great opportunity to defeat it. In a general election, there's so many things on the ballot that the average voter is lost.

Every county is going to be watched to see if they're able to do it efficiently and effectively, ... I really just hope and pray that counties have worked out any of the difficulties they experienced in the November general election and are able to move it forward.

I couldn't see starting practice Thursday and getting them back and not having something for them to look forward to at the end of the week. But the bigger thing was we had kids who went from being the problem kid, the one who was being put out of class, to become the I'm-working-hard kid, the one staying after school for more help.
