Fifty-acre parcels are generally not that available in Silicon Valley. You can't buy 50 acres, you have to piece it together. So if you're Apple and you're going to go through the trouble of putting it together, you might as well pick an area you want to stay in, as opposed to one further away where you might save money but it will be just as difficult to assemble.

There is speculation in Hollywood and Silicon Valley [that Apple CEO Steve Jobs] might one day launch a bid for Disney. The idea is not as outlandish as it might seem. Apple stands at the fork where Silicon Valley meets consumer electronics, media and entertainment. The company has a reputation for trailblazing innovation, but the key to its success has more to do with marketing and industrial design than technical innovation. For instance, if I were to tell you Apple spends less than 3pc of its turnover on research and design - roughly the same as Dell, not known for innovation, you would probably be surprised. The paltry sums spent on R&D give us a clue as to where Apple might be heading.

There are very few parcels with an acre or above, ... If you needed five to 10 acres, it would be very scarce.

Here in Silicon Valley, we're all about change. Out with orchards, in with tilt-ups. Out with analog, in with digital. Out with print, in with online. Amid all this, it's comforting to know that some things stay the same. Apple Computer, for instance. Funny, I realized, how Apple has in many ways changed the world, changed us, but not itself.

Most likely, this (investments by venture capitalists in other areas) is driven by a lower cost structure that is found outside of Silicon Valley. This (Silicon Valley) is a high-priced area to start a business.

To create smaller parcels would go against the General Plan. We have had proposals to split 80-acre parcels into smaller lots but we don't allow it.

We're proposing a very simple LNG import terminal. We have an option on an 80-acre (32.4-hectare) piece of land but we would probably use only about 35 acres (14 hectares). We would keep a lot of trees in the front.

They put over 100 million gates/transistors on a tiny piece of silicon. On that piece of silicon there are more lines than there are on a roadmap of London - and they work. There are very very few errors in a microprocessor.

Having an easy to use wireless network is going to make Silicon Valley more competitive when it comes to attracting conventions and visitors. The network will once again demonstrate that there is no better place in the world to do business than Silicon Valley.

This will become the nexus of the Bay area, like a Silicon Valley, where people come to do business.

We're expanded on a project we started last year. We're working with the Department of Natural Resources to build a better hunting area in the Deer Creek area. We will be putting in 42 acres of food plots in that area.

It's been increasingly difficult to buy even a 30-acre piece.

The Minden prospect originated this past summer through a large acreage acquisition from a major oil company and Cabot now controls 3,500 acres over the area. We are pleased with our initial results and will remain active in this area throughout 2006. On forty-acre spacing, the prospect has the potential for 80 plus locations.
